Question:
I'm almost 6 months post op and not loosing
I am approaching 6 months post-op from lap RNY and seem to be steady at 70lb loss. Believe me beggers can't be choosers I know I exercise 4-5x/week- but I read about others being 80-90+lbs down and i feel let down. Anyone around my time frame have food suggestions ideas. Having difficulty with getting enough protein vs "bad" carbs. THANKS! — Heidi C. (posted on January 16, 2003)

Heidi-Ihad my surgery a week before yours and I can assure you that what
you are experiencing is quite normal. I would suggest mixing up your
workouts. Swim one day, bike another. Maybe even take a day off during the
week and just go for a walk, indoors or out depending on the weather. I
find it very helpful to try some new foods that are healthy. Carbs beware!!
Protein first and 6 glasses of water a day and you'll be on your way to
losing AGAIN!! GOD bless and don't be hesitant to try new things along the
way. It makes things fun and exciting!!!!--- Stef

I had surgery a week or so before you and I'm at the same place. I've lost
about 75 pounds total which is great but nothing for the past month. I also
get frustrated because I read about people who at this point have lost 100
pounds. I could have written this question. No answers for you, just I'm in
the same boat. Hang in there (like we have a choice)!

I try to average 700-900 calories a day (fitday.com is an easy way to
monitor it) and drink 64-100 oz of water and excercise 5-6 times week. for
breakfast I have 4 oz yogurt (anything with 8 grams sugar or less) with 1
tablespoon of grapenuts. Lunch is usually meat and cheese or leftovers like
chicken with no more than 1 tablespoon of rice or potatoes. Snack veggies
or nuts or cheese and Dinner is meat and veggie with 1 tablespoon of carb.
I also have a protein shake at night. We all lose at different paces, my
weight will go like gang-busters then stop, then pick up again. Take care
of yourself and things will happen, they can't help but not.

I have a couple of suggestions: #1. Change your workout a bit, if you have
been doing the same thing for a long time your body might get used to it.
#2. Look at this weight and compare it to a weight you might have been at
for a long time in the past. I would get stuck at previous weights, and the
longer I had been at a previous weight, the longer it took to get unstuck.
It was almost like my body had a weight 'memory'. Good luck to you.

You answered your own question in your last sentence! I find that tracking
what I eat has been the key to my success. I had a slow weightloss of only
12 lbs during my second month and it made me angry. Now I keep track of
every calorie I eat. It really helps!!
I use fitday.com to enter all my calories. It calculates the
carbs/fats/protein, etc. I eat 3 meals a day on a strict schedule and have
one snack. Usually try to stay under 1000 calories. I've lost 90 lbs in 5
months. (started at 296 and 5'7").
Good luck!
