Question:
I am 7 weeks post op and just recently I have started to have horrendous nausea.
I am taking Zofran and using Promethegan suppositories, but I am still not able to eat without having to lie down for a while till it subsides. At my doctor's request, I am still on a liquid diet and I will remain on it till I go back to see him at the end of this month. Any suggestions? I find I am only drinking water and juice and cannot tolerate my protein drink or soup. — Anna B. (posted on January 15, 2003)

Hi Anna, I am not about where you live but here in Myrtle Beach SC there is
this awful stomach virus going around. You can't keep anything down at all.
Several of my nurses have been out with it. So maybe this has nothing to do
with your surgery and you were the lucky catcher of this bug. Stick to the
fluids as you have and by all means follow your docs advice. I hope you
feel better soon.

Try chicken broth instead of juice (what kind, could it be to much sugar on
an empty system) I know I also can get a feeling of nausea if I am low on
my fluids. Can you drink suger free carnation breakfast? I would persue
it more with your Dr., at 7 weeks, you certainly need more than juice and
water. How about cottage cheese (I can't stand the texture) in a blender
and sugar free jello, you will get some protein and nutrients that way.
Even try some baby food that sounds tolerable. I wish I could help a
little more. You will be in my prayers!

About 7 weeks post-op I ate food I was not suppose to and got very
sick--vomited for 8 hours every 20 minutes. When I finally got in touch
with the doctor he told me mucus collects in your stomach and makes you
sick too. After I started taking ANTIHISTAMINES I was less nauseous. I've
been taking an antihistamine every night since. lap-RNY 10-9-02

I want to second what the previous poster said. I, too had a mucous
problem that caused horrendous nausea. My doctor advised an antihistimine
before bed and if I was having problems an over-the-counter Zantac 75.
Works like a charm.
