Question:
I eat the way my nutritionist tells me to but i feel like im eating too much!
I feel like when I look at a plate that I can eat everything. I DONT eat everything on my plate....I just somehow know when to stop i guess. Why do i feel like I am eating tons of food when im really not? Its really upsetting. I guess i keep thinking that I will not be successful at this. I am exactly 7 weeks post op today and down 36 lbs...is this good? — sandrac131 (posted on January 3, 2003)

becasue you are getting the "full" or "satisfied"
sensation much sooner then you used to. Full to you used to mean a very
large amount of food. Now, it may mean only a few bites. And yes, 36 pounds
is great. Your doing marvelous!

Ok...I just had to jump in here and "open my mouth".... something
I am very good at! I am 6 1/2 weeks post-op and have lost 34 pounds....
**34 POUNDS**!!!!! To me this is "amazing"!! That's an average of
5 pounds per week!!!! When have any of us lost 5 pounds per week and knew
that this time it was staying off?? I am so jazzed about this!! And you and
the other Lisa are right there with me!! How can you not be excited about
what is happening here?? (grin) This is an awesome thing that is going on
with our bodies.....we are eating until we are "full", AND still
losing weight!! Whoda thunk? ROFLMAO You are doing everything that you
should be doing right now....don't sweat the small stuff...all is right in
"weightlossland"!! (big smile) Love and light,

Congratulations!!! Relax. The best way I could come up with to get over
this feeling, and we've all dealt with it, was to use a small desert or
baby plate for my meals and to measure out the amount my nutritionist
recommended. For me that was 2-3 oz in a medicine cup or whiskey shot
glass. Don't wieght your food with a scale, use one ounce measures. I
only put that much on my plate and often didn't finish that, but I knew I
could be safe and not overeat because I had already made sure to only have
enough food on the plate to keep the portion right. If you do eat it all,
you're still not going to hurt anything, you've got the right amount
measured out. Now at almost 20 months post op, I still use the tiny
plates, but I can eat about a cup of food most of the time and some times
not that much. Try this and remember don't drink with your meals. Wait
the 30-60 minutes as my doctor instructs.
