Question:
do you have to burn ketones to lose weight?
also are we suppose to be carb free? it seems that if I eat one gram of carb I don't lose for several days. does exercise help with the burning of ketones and is that the state we want to be in? this is all so confusing. any advice will be appreciated. — Beverly H. (posted on November 21, 2002)

I can only speak for myself and I know I am loosing weight, and I am not
having ketones problems. I have been told it is unhealthy to be in a
constant state of having ketones. -103 lbs. in 5 mths

My doctor does not recommend staying in ketosis. I eat carba but I just
always put my protein first at every meal. Like I will eat a pork chop
then some potatoes and veggies. It is still working I am six months post
op and I have gone from a size 24 to a 5/6. I am down 106 pounds which is
6 pounds below my goal.

you don't actually "burn" ketones. When your body gets rid of the
fat, ketones are made. That is a by product. At least that is my
understanding. But no, you do not have to have ketones in your urine to
lose fat.
