I had open RNY and was able to be go back to work in
three weeks. I started half days for a couple of days at the beginning to
see how it felt.

I took almost 5 weeks just because I could...but could certainly have gone
back after the first couple of weeks. I felt tired some, but that would
hinder you with a desk job. It is kind of hard to concentrate
though...you're thinking about your new pouch...

I went back to teaching middle school after 3 weeks. I could have done a
desk job after 2 weeks easily. I was bored!!! and glad to go back.

I also have a "desk" job. I had Lap RNY and went back in 10
days. The first week was fine, but I was really tired the second week.

I am two weeks post op today (lap RNY). I started back (night auditor/desk
job) two nights ago. Initially I felt it was too soon, but now that I am
here, I feel much better. The only probs I have are this damn NG tube
moving around too much....Good luck to you!

I have a desk job and returned to work 8 days after my lap RNY. My
daughter teaches pre-school and went back to work full-time 14 days post-op
lap RNY. We observed our surgeon's limitations regarding lifting, and had
no problems at all other than a higher level of fatigue than usual during
the first week or so. Best wishes!

I went back after my drain tube was pulled so that was about 2 weeks. I
did get tired quickly but that went away after about 2 weeks. If felt good
to get back I had cabin fever so bad. Good Luck and God Bless.

I had Open RNY and returned to my desk job two weeks post-op with no
problems at all. For the first week or so, I would take a nap when I got
home but after that I had so much energy it was amazing. I was actually
released to return to work 12 days post-op but was away from home and
couldn't get back to Dallas til the weekend. Many people at my office were
stunned to see me back so soon; no one believed that I would return from
major surgery so quickly.

My surgeon only does the lap RNY. At our support group meetings, I was
amazed at how soon some of the laps went back to desk jobs. 1 doctor, who
had the surgery on a Friday was seeing patients on Tuesday. She admitted
to a reduced schedule and she was on pain meds, but still, thats 5 days! I
know I didn't/couldn't consider going back to work for 6 weeks at least,
but everyone is different. I think the healthier you are going into
surgery, the younger you are, and if no complications, 2 weeks should be OK
for a desk job.

I could have gone back in 2 1/2 to 3 weeks, but I had a terrible time with
nausea during that time, so since I had tons of Short Term Disability
Coverage, I stayed out until my nausea problems were semi-resolved and I
felt I could actually eat something for lunch at work. I went back in 5
1/2 weeks.

I had a LAP RNY done in april and was out of the hospital in 3 days and
back to work in 10 days. I felt up to going back sooner but I also had a
hernia repair done at the same time and my surgeon wanted me to wait an
extra few days. Everyone was shocked when I walked into the office so soon
after. I just figured that I would be sitting around at home so I might a
well sit around the office. Good luck to you.
