Question:
What are you/did you eat 6 months post op?

I am a little more than 6 months post-op. I have lost 70 pounds and eat about 1500 calories/day. I suspect that this is too much and would like to know what others eat/ate at six months out -- especially those who lost 100 or more pounds in the first six months. I'm ready to make a change! Thanks.    — Linda V. (posted on August 27, 2002)

I had open RNY on 3/6/02. I've lost 98 lbs. so far. When I had my last check-up with my surgeon on 7/25/02 we discussed what I was eating and how much. At that time I was eating 700-1000 calories a day. He told me to keep it to the 700 calorie range. My diet typically consists of the following: Breakfast: 1/2 C of bran flakes with 1/2 C of 2% milk and just a touch of sugar Lunch: one can of tuna Snack: 8 oz of fat free yogurt Dinner: lettuce salad (with carrots and other veg included), topped with 2 oz of baked chicken, a litle cheese and fat free dressing I make sure I drink my 64 oz a day. It consists of mainly water, although sometimes I have diet pop My surgeon does not want us using protein drinks, because he wants us to learn to eat and get our protein from a source that will fill us up and satisfy our desire to eat. I hope this helps. I also go to Curves 3/wk and try to walk several times a week.

I am 6 months and two weeks post op and down 114 pounds (reached 200 today, yay!). I start off my day by drinking anywhere from 30-48 ounces of water. Then for breakfast, a protein drink. Lunch: Four small soy-product meatballs, or two medium turkey meatballs, or half a chicken burger with a fat free string cheese or lite mini baby-belle cheese. Afternoon snack: two pieces of rolled up turkey, light cheese, and tomato, or 5 medium shrimp and cocktail sauce, or a 1/4 c. of ff cottage cheese and a 1/2 of a protein bar and maybe a 1/4 of fruit. Dinner: Half a chicken bureger and 1/4 of veggies, 1/4 c. chicken breast, or anything really...beef, chicken, fish. If I need a little something extra during the day, I'll have a few nuts or a peice of a protein bar. I would say on average I am still maintaining between 800 - 100 cals/day.
