Question:
Am I eating too much? I looked in library but didn't find similar question.

I am 8 months post op and -135 lbs and I am very happy with that but the further I get out the hungrier I get. I am now able to eat practicly a whole hot dog (meat & bread only) or a whole sandwhich (minus the crust) and I was wondering if this is too much for me to eat at one time. I don't feel stuffed or over indulged either only full. I am worried I may stretch my pouch. My typical day meal is: Breakfast 1-2 slice bacon and 1/2 scrambled egg. mid morning snack banana, Lunch ham & Cheese sandwhich (no crust), snack 1/2c. Gardettos, dinner 1 hotdog (meat & bread only), late snack 1/2 c popcorn. IS THIS TOO MUCH FOR ONLY 8 MONTHS OUT ????    — Lynda T. (posted on July 18, 2002)

Thats normal. Its about what other thin people eat usually. About a year out I can eat a whole Pizza Hut personal pan supreme. To give you a idea of quantity. Congrats on your loss.

HI LYNDA!CONGRATS ON THE GREAT WT LOSS! I AM ALSO 8MTHS POST OP AND AM HAVING THE SAME CONCERNS AS YOU. I CAN EAT A WHOLE HOT DOG AND EVEN A 6 INCH SUB FROM SUBWAY(NOT A LOADED ONE) THIS REALLY CONCERNS ME. I FEEL SATISFIED BUT NOT STUFFED BY ANY MEANS. I HAVE NEVER HAD SODA SINCE MY SURGERY AND TRY NOT TO OVERFILL, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF YOUR POUCH CAN STILL STRETCH. I HOPE TOO TO GET SOME GOOD ANSWERS AND THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU. SANDY WILMES

Hi there, Another poster who sounds like me. From the start, I've been able to eat more than a lot of folks who post on here. 1-2 tbsp of food? I was always able to eat more than that, right from the start. Today at 8 months out, I can eat what you are eating as well, easily. Many of my meals might be one of the frozen dinners, ranging from 6-9oz, and I can easily eat most of one of those. Are you still losing? I'm losing, albeit slowly (again from the start), but I'm down 99 and feeling wonderful. I believe all of us are different, I consider my pouch size a blessing, as I never feel deprived at all when I'm eating. When we go out to eat now, I eat about as much as all my skinny minny friends always have - it's great to push the plate away with a third to two thirds of the food still on it!

Oh, thanks for asking this question! I'm almost 9 months post op and down 110lbs. This is what I can eat: 1/2 bagel with FF cream cheese and 2 slices of deli turkey, snack 1/2 c. melon, lunch, lean cuisine single entree, pm snack, protien bar or some crackers, dinner, 1/2 chicken breast and 1/2 c. rice, dessert 1c popcorn or Nestle's SF Ice Cream bar. I am also never overstuffed. I guess we are what they call, Normal?

I am also 8 months post-op, and eat about the same amount that you do. WOW, your weight loss is fantastic. I have lost 86 lbs. in the same amount of time. And we started at the same weight! Being underweight will also cause you to become more hungry. Your body knows just what it needs. I could probably eat an entire sandwich, but I am satisfied with a half. I can eat almost an entire hotdog, leaving some bread behind. I can also eat an entire taco, and almost a whole Whopper Jr. with the veggies on top. I can eat the whole thing, but again, feel satisfied on most of it leaving some bread behind. On maintenence, your food portions will increase. Just keep tabs on how much you are eating and watch the scale so that you can guage your own maintenence plan.

I am just over 8 months out, and sometimes it seems like I can eat alot, but other times I get sick feeling quickly. I think it depends on the food. your Water intake, and if you beleive it, The Weather. Hot sticky days I do not feel as hungry, and cannot eat as much, but cooler days when I am more active, I can eat more. I still have a hard time with bread, so I do not eat much of it. I eat alot of salads, and Tuna, but venture into my favorite of all time Steak! Although I eat only a couple of ounces at a time it really stisfies me.

It is not the amount of food you are consuming.. that seems a normal amount to me.. Watch out for the Grazing and the hidden calories Liquid Calories are the worst ( juice, coke, milk ) cheese is high in calories and Fat as for the amount your right where you should be I didn't see any veggies in your diet add some of those and more protein..more meat bacon is great but high in Calories and Fat its the little things that slow our weight loss down maybe try cutting 1 piece of bacon and are you walking exercise the dreaded word will keep it off you and I know we got FAT because of lack of movement and the calories we comsumed ok now the calories are cut down what are WE going to do about the movement I am yelling at myself here also lol I will get my butt moving Kathy

That sounds about right to me. I found that between 7-10 months I was a lot hungrier and could eat a lot more. After 10 months I kind of evened out and now sometimes I eat more, but most often less than I ate during that period. Some days I really don't eat much at all--kind of like right after I had surgery. I worried about it until I took the cottage cheese test--turned out that at a year out I had a capacity of just under a cup: right where I was supposed to be. If you are really worried about it take the cottage cheese test. I drove myself nuts worrying until I took it. Now it doesn't concern me at all!
