Question:
How would I know that I am in need of a revison?
I had open r-n-y in March 2000. I weighed 345 at the time. I lost down to 232 but have since gained back to where I am now at 285. Is weight gain the only criteria for a revision? Thanks — Charlotte T. (posted on June 13, 2002)

You definitely need to find out why you stopped losing and regained. Did
you graze your way? Was there some disruption? Unless you know what
caused the problem, you shouldn't even think about a revision. It could
have been a mechanical failure or non-compliance. You need to figure out
what happened first. BTW, I tried to look up your profile and email you
but your profile was blank. If you want to chat, please email me anytime.

First question that needs answering is "are you transected?" If
you are not and had just stapling to create the pouch, you could have a
staple line disruption. You need an Upper GI or an endoscopy to see what
is going on. In order to have a revision covered by insurance, it must be
a medical necessity as in a staple line disruption or a leak or something
that has gone wrong. If it has happened it is not the end of the world and
it is fixable! I know because it happened to me. I am now transected and
losing again. Sorry you are having problems but instead of going crazy
worrying about it, go to the doctor and have a look. We must face the
problem in order to get a solution. It does take courage to face a problem
and you have taken the first step in realizing that something is not right.
Good luck and God bless you!
