Question:
Hello I'm 14 months post op RNY and ate
a pack of wendys chicken nuggets (5) nuggets and almost a whole baked potatoe for lunch today. I wasn't exceptionally full. I realize that these aren't the greatest food choices. Do you guys think this is too much. All comments are welcome negative or positive. (I Can take it) Thanks a bunch! — Kristina P. (posted on June 5, 2002)

I can only tell you about my experience. At 12 months post op, we're
pretty close in time. I find I can eat a lot at times, and not so much at
others. I see nothing wrong in the amount of what you ate. My
nutritionist says that at this point our stomachs are made to hold a cup
and a half of food. So just always try to equate that in your head. For
instance, I felt extremely bad being about to eat 2 pieces of thin Papa
John's pizza. But seriously, if you were to squish it down to fit into a
cup without air pockets, it would easily fit within a cup and a half
chewed. So would what you ate. The way I think of it is, I'm eating like
I want to eat for the rest of my life and still losing weight. If I were
still eating little bits at a time, I think overall I'd feel deprived and I
also think that once you did start to eat more, your body would have been
used to the small amounts and would think you were overeating. So I say
just try to make the healthiest choices, still make sure to get all your
exercise and water, and I don't think you have to worry about portions too
much. Your body is not built to overeat like it used to be. Best of luck.

I am 2 months post-op and I had 3 chicken nuggets and the inside of a baked
potato from Wendy's today for lunch. Does that mean that I am eating way
to much?? You guys are 12-14 months out. Should I be nervous??

Hello Kristina! I'm 16 months post op RNY and I eat the same thing! I went
thru many months of being convinced I had a SLD or an enlarged stoma...the
truth is, some of us can eat this amount and we haven't "ruined our
tool"...there have been so many times that I asked this type of
question or responded to someone else's only to be "bashed" by
pre-ops or others telling me to get into counseling to stop my bad habits.
The truth is...we're finally "real" people making normal food
choices. I will not be made to feel guilty because I can eat more than the
2-3 ounces some have disciplined themselves to...I can eat two pieces of
pizza too! I don't do it every day, just when I feel like it...finally food
does not rule my life and don't you let it rule yours!

Before sugery I would have eaten a triple cheeseburger, Extra biggie fries,
Biggie Dr. Pepper (not diet) plus a refill, and maybe even a Frosty. I
don't think that a 5 piece chicken nugget and a baked potato is going to
kill you. I am 3 months post-op and love getting a plain baked potato and
pouring a cup of Wendy's chili over it. If I take it very slow and chew it
up well, I can eat most of it. I started thinking I was eating too much,
but then started comparing the calories to what I used to eat. Big
difference. Sounds like you are doing pretty good and sometimes you can't
always be "perfect" in eating, but making "this is better
than that" type choices and still do pretty good is part of life. I
love McDonalds new Select chicken strips. I eat about 2 of them, and they
don't seem as greasy as mcnuggets.
