Question:
At 6 mnths out, i've lost 95 lbs. Will i continue to lose if i eat what i want ?
I do not eat wildly. I have however become more relaxed with my food. Im curious that after the first six months if i need to "diet" more to continue losing, or will it just continue like it has? I still have 50 more pounds to go. I have not as yet begun an excercise program. — darlene N. (posted on May 24, 2002)

Dream on!!! Ask any expert...NO MATTER WHAT DIET YOU HAVE OR WHAT SURGERY
YOU HAVE if you eat more than you burn off you will gain (or not lose) Try
to focus on eating the right things..i NEVER USED TO SNACK now i find
myself craving things like trail mix. Its too wierd!!!! Good luck on your
journey

You are walking a slippery slope. I was able to eat pretty much anything I
wanted and I still lost weight. I thought WLS was the greatest thing since
sliced bread with jam. Now after two years it's caught up with me and I am
starting to gain weight with all the random eating I do. I am right back
where I was in the beginning but wonder now what? Where this (weight gain)
will end is anyone's guess. I didn't learn a thing about eating and what
the whole process should be about. I urge you to stop right now and think
about the consequences of random eating in one two or three years. I beg
you to NOT do what I did which was pretty much think the surgery was going
to do it all for me. It's simply not true and I dearly hope you can get
with the program early.

Why haven't you been exercising? Not only will you lose more weight
faster, tone up, get more energy, but you will be feeling so much better.
Try not to think of this as a diet because we know that diets don't work.
If they did, very few of us would have had to have WLS. Although you will
probably continue to lose, unless you start making some LIFE LONG changes
in your eating and exercising habits, you WILL regain over time.

You will probably continue to lose some, but eventually your eating will
equal your activity level, and you will stop losing. I have lost 180 lbs.
since my surgery 14.5 months ago. Nowadays, I don't have any
"no-no" foods but I still try to be careful and carefully monitor
my weight. I still lose approximately 1 lb. per week. I have 36.5 more
lbs. to go, so it will probably take me several more months at this rate to
reach goal. I think the key is moderation and exercise. You don't have to
be insane about avoiding sugar or carbs. You just have to eat them in
moderation! I definitely follow the food pyramid and am not an "all
protein" type gal. Doesn't seem to have affected my weight loss. As
my surgeon said to begin with, "It's far less important what you eat
than how much you move your body and how much water you drink."
