Question:
Does anyone else find their sence of smell has changed?
Hi guys and girls......does anyone else find that certain smells of foods make them sick now? Garlic and cup of soup make me wanna vomit now......but didn't before surgery. I had the rny. Also, that their sence of smell is stronger than usual? For example....my parents went out for dinner and ate bruschetta pasta...(garlic).....and after sitting in the back of our vehicle for 5 minutes and smelling them..I thought I was literally going to be sick! LOL Any thoughts?! — Jennifer M. (posted on April 29, 2002)

I am 8 weeks post op. The first 4 or 5 weeks I did believe that my sense of
smell was so much stronger. When I went back to work and had people
sitting across my desk from me talking I could smell them food opn their
breath very strongly. It wasn't too pleasant. Now I am either back to
normal or I am used to the heightened sense.

I can't think of any occassions where smell made me feel ill, but my sense
of smell is most definitely stronger now! I walk around all day commenting
on things that I smell. I quit smoking the day of surgery and thought that
may have something to do with it too.

Yeah smelling food made me nausus the first 2-3 months. Weird. It hardly
happens anymore. Sure wish it still did as I lost most of my weight when
food smelled awful! lol. It won't always be that way. Once you are healed
things will smell fine again.
