Question:
I need to know how to go about getting approval for a panni

Open RNY 11-12-01 loss -105 and I am ready to try to get a panni done, but I was forced to change insurance on 1-1-02 and don't know how to go about getting approval for the panni with this company (which by the way does not cover anything for WLS surgery or TT) so any suggestions will help. I have not seen a cosmetic surgeon yet, So is there any way I can apply for approval and try to get it before I see the cosmetic surgeon?    — Lynda T. (posted on April 12, 2002)

I found the best way to get approval was to have documented the problems the pannus caused, as well as my attempts to alleviate the problems with everything short of surgery. You don't mention what type of insurance you have, but if it's an HMO, start with visits to your PCP to document the problems, and ask for a referral.
