Question:
This may be a silly question but.....

I understand that we don't absorb B-12 through the pouch so it is better for us to take the B-12 Sublingual. Do we actually absorb the multi-vitamin? Shouldn't we use a liquid multi-vitamin? Are there any good ones? Is anyone using a liquid multi-vit, did you start out with the tablet first and then go to the liquid? Just something I started to think about! thanks for all your help    — AnnMarie W. (posted on March 22, 2002)

My doctor told me that i would have to get B12 shots ever 4 to 6 weeks. They also are coming out with some kind of inhaler you sniff up your nose. Hope this help.

I am 9 months post op and take 3 flintstones chewables with iron, 2 B12 swallowed pills and 2 calciums a day. My blood work is perfect. We do absorb vitamins but just not as well. If I were female I would take regular iron pills, but being male dont feel I need that high a dosage. Swallowed B 12s work fine for me!

B12 is not absorbed via the stomach any more, since the food doesn't go there and it cannot hook up with its buddy, intrinsic factor. You can watch your blood levels (yourself, with your own eyes). When they hit 400 or lower, start shots. Mine were once at almost 2000, but over the years, they fall. Some people hit bottom in 6 months. I was watching so didn't bottom out. 3 docs let those low (but not panic) levels slip right by. Even after I started shots, the levels continued to drop, so the frequency had to be tweaked. The key is frequent labs for B12 & iron. The key for calcium is annual dexascan. Blood levels are a red herring, as far as bone condition.

HI, My doc prescribed B-12 in nasal gel form. I start tomorrow, 1 spray per week. Would love to hear if others are using it.

Yes, there is an excellent liquid vitamin available that absorbs in about 5 minutes at a 95% absorption rate. You get what you pay for with these vitamins. See website pattischmoldt.unfranchise.com Click on "health and nutrition", then "Isotonix"
