Question:
I'm 7 weeks out, how much should I be eating?

Hi everyone, I'm 7 weeks out from an open rny, and was wondering, how much should I be eating per meal, If I eat three meals a day? At the moment I can eat three soda crackers with a bit of tuna on them. Is this bad? Thanx so much!    — Jennifer M. (posted on March 17, 2002)

I am also 7 weeks out (open RNY) and can tolerate more food than what I think I should. I can consume 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of chili, I've eatten 1 egg with a slice of cheese AND cubed ham. I feel it's to much, but yet I tolerate it. I also would like input from others with experience at 7 wks post op! Good Luck to you.

I'm 7 weeks and was actually panic-y about how much I could eat. My nutritionist suggested eating a couple of baby carrots or apple slices with every meal to give my stomach something to work on and help me feel full. I think it is helping! I have to make myself stop eating when I know I should because I rarely feel full and could easily eat more - but because I want to in my head, not because I need to for my body!

I am 6 1/2 weeks out, and am also surprised at how much I can eat, especially if I eat it slowly. I think this is not a good thing. The other night I had 5, count 'em, 5 triscuits with cheese. But grazing is how I got into this fix, so I will just have to be more careful than others. I think I would prefer this situation to not being able to keep anything down, which I've seen on some postings.

Well Iam 6 weeks PO and have found that I to can eat more than 2 oz and I also can pretty much tolerate anything I try, I don't dump or throw up. I can eat 1 scrambled egg and a slice of cheese, I can eat more like 3/4 c. to cup of soup. I have lost 20 pounds and am worried that it is to much food. I do't seem to however be able to get all my water in. That is what concerns me about loosing faster!

I am also 6 weeks out and am scared to death that I am eating too much. I am dumping regularly and have thrown up twice due to the feeling that something was stuck. I have lost about 28 pounds, but the weight seems stuck at that for 2 weeks. I can eat a half of sandwich and once ate a whole fishwich from McDonalds. I only eat twice a day and try to stay under 600 calories. Good luck. Laura Lee

I am 7weeks out and while I can't tolerate much more than about 2oz of salmon at a time, or a bite or two of other food, if you eat over a long paeriod of time of course you are able to eat more. I am not one to to criticize because I have had my share of criticism from people on this site, and at about 4 weeks post op I could eat about 3/4 cup of chili but it would take me an hour to do it. Now I was trying to get in all my protein at the time because I was not taking any protein shakes, but I know now that I have come to far to sabotage my weight loss by eating things that I know I shouldn;t and by eating amounts that I know I shouldn't-Pre-op I was a big sugar eater as well as carbs, but I was also health conscious I just ate huge amounts of health conscious meals-What I am tryingis that you have been given an opportunity to change your life and you have to realize that food is not your friend and it never will be-you need food to function properly, but you do not need food to LIVE-look at how it's killed your life already! Much luck to all of you with your weight loss
