Question:
Has anyone ate baby food instead of pureed food?

Do you have any tips for using baby food?    — Marla B. (posted on March 15, 2002)

Marla, I tried the baby food-chicken with squash-and it was horrid! Very bland. Skip it..I think its better to puree your own food, or do what I did. Just eat soft foods during the puree stage, and chew thoroughly.

Depends on which ones. I am pre-op but will plan on the baby food for a while. I have been taste testing while feeding my daughter! Here is a tip....stay away from the meats!!!! But, the fruits and veges are yummy. I just add a little salt or pepper some times!

Hi, Maybe I'm the weirdo here, but I ate baby foods, instead of pureed and I liked them ,haha!! I liked the peas, and carrots, and other veggies pretty well, and i thought the chicken and turkey were pretty good. Of course I did add some seasoning to them. I don't know but the thought of pureeing my foods just turned me off. I think that baby food is cheap enough to try, and if you do wind up buying ones that you don't like you can take the unopened ones to a food bank.

I never pureed anything. Just cut into pencil eraser sized bits or smaller and chew to death. OR put in food processor. My surgeon suggested this and it works.

My surgeon told me "No Baby Food". The sugar, fat and sodium counts were too high for most WLS patients. I never bothered to check the actual counts 'cause he was so against using them. I also never pureed anything. I just cut everything into very small bites and chewed it really well. Good luck!

Marla, Although in pre-op days we knew that the pureed stage would come along the way we DID purchase some but that's about as far as it got. HA! They still sit stored away even now. As like other posters I used my foodprocesser more during this stge of the program than I probably have in the last 10 years! If you chop well and chew chew chew until it becomes a pureed consistency in your mouth before swallowing it should be alright. Good Luck, Marla

Marla, Still makes me nauses to think of it! No we did not eat any but we did purchas about 6-8 jars! They are still unused even now! At that time when wewereonn that phase I brought out my food processer and then when we got whatever we wanted pureed it was then chew-chew-chew! We figured that if in your mouth you got the contents to the pureed stage before swallowing you were all right Good Luck, it does get better! Look us up
