Question:
No appetite and most all foods make me sick to even look at.

I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and down 22lbs. Over the past couple of days, most all foods make me sick to look at or even to smell. I am taking in very little and am becoming worried about my intake. I am still doing liquids fine. Is this temporary and will pass? Any suggestions? Thanks..    — Navywife B. (posted on January 20, 2002)

It's only tempory and it WILL pass. It was nine weeks before food did'nt make me want to vomit just smelling it. I wish I had that problem occasionaly. lol Once food smells and tastes better I suspect your weight loss will slow down some. I know it sounds funny to say this, "but enjoy it now". There will come a time (6 months for me) when I started to enjoy food to much and have to be careful. But don't worry. This is normal in newly post ops. It will pass.

It is and it will. Just keep up your fluids and vitamins. You are not going to starve to death , I'm sure you and I had enough body fat to live off of for quite some time!LOL!It's just scarey at first to experience these changes that are so foreign to us. Who ever thought food would turn us off , even if it is temporary!

When I first came home from the hospital the smell of food, just about ANY food made me queasy. Our church members were cooking these wonderful, healthy meals for my husband and children to eat and bringing the food over to us each night. I would have to run into my bedroom and shut the door because it made me sick to smell the food. It wasn't new or strange food either, just regular food. I also couldn't stand to smell my family's breath if they leaned over to kiss me or were close up to me talking; I kept making them go brush their teeth over and over! LOL! But all that has gone away now, I guess it took about 2-3 weeks, maybe a little longer. Food smells don't bother me anymore, I can cook a whole meal for my family and even if it is not what I am eating it doesn't bother me to smell it. And I have also let up on the tooth brushing requests although everybody's teeth were sure cleaner for several weeks! Hang in there, what you are experiencing is normal and it will pass. Good luck to you!

I am 4 weeks post-op and sometimes I feel like that. About a week out from surgery I wanted to vomit just looking at some food. Yesterday morning I ate a few tiny bites of egg which turned my stomach. Ever since I feel positively nauseated and sick. To look or smell food is making me ill. Whenever I feel this way usually after 2 days I feel better and can stomach food. Good Luck!

I'm 33 days out, and no matter what I eat I throw up!! I feel sooooooooo hungrey but one bite and it is a b-line for the porcelin princess. I have had a secondary infection from my incision. I can't eat anything with aspartimine in it, so I can't have puddings or jello. Someone please help me!!! God's Speed. Sharon Thornton
