Question:
Am I getting enough nutrients?
I am almost 4 months post-op. I have been buying new vitamins, minerals & suppliments the last couple of days... bought a multi-vitamin w/iron, Co Q-10 (50 mg.), L-Lysine (for fever blisters that I get with PMS), and Silica (for my hair). These were the same things I was taking pre-surgery, I am hoping that this will be enough for post-surgery. I also drink a Myoflex for breakfast and eat a Pure Protein bar for lunch, I snack on string cheese, banannas, or sunflower seeds, and I drink a lot of V-8 juice, and of course, water. For supper I eat with the rest of my family, whatever I cook, sometimes it settles well, other times it doesn't. Does it sound like I am getting my nutrients in good? — DonnaCarol (posted on January 16, 2002)

Thank you Ray, I'm going to check this website out. I have been really
worried that I wasn't getting SOMETHING in right!

Donna, I am worried about your calcium (you need 1000 mg at least and
preferably 1500 mg a day of calcium citrate), your iron (have your blood
levels been checked? often one multivitamin is NOT enough), your folic
acid, and your B-12. Also, V-8 has TONS of sugar and is probably not a
great choice. I think you might want to consult your nutritionist just to
check in, and to do a food diary so you know what your calorie levels are.
How's your weight loss and energy? Good luck! (minus 94 lbs and 76.5 inches
in 4 months, open RNY) :-)
