Question:
I have PMM - Pre-Menstrual Munchies...

I have pre-menstrual munchies! Anyone have any good healthy ideas on snacks? No sweets please! I'm a little over 10 weeks post-op, eating regular foods, but filling up awfully fast, lol! Just need something to take a bite of every half hour or so. I'm tired of string cheese, crackers, pretzels, etc. Looking for something easy and new!    — [Anonymous] (posted on December 7, 2001)

What about a tasty, crunchy cereal that has protein? It would be tiny bites, but still feel like you are getting some munchies.

I am preop and I get absolutely ravenous during PMS! I usually drink tons of water and eat things like celery and cucumbers. If you don't like your celery plain, I like mine with creame cheese sometimes too (not too often though). In general I like eating cold and preferably juicy fruits and vegetables during my PMM... raw cabbage is very good too (mmmmm!), carrots, and grapefruit. Funny thing about raw cabbage... even if you're still hungry after eating it a while you won't eat anymore because it sure gives your jaw a workout! :) Good luck :)

I get hungry prior to and during my cycle. I'm about 11 weeks post-op and find that I am getting hungry between meals occasionally. My surgeon is adament about eating no more than 4 times a day. He says absolutely no snacking (I wish he had monthly cycles!). Since I am determined to follow his rules, I have found that drinking lots of water helps (sometimes I feel hungry when really I'm thirsty) and I chew on ice. I like to eat an apple, a few grapes, or a couple of pieces of low-fat cheese if I am to the point I must have a snack. The dietician recommended peanut butter or cottage cheese with the apple if I had to snack. She said the protien would last longer in my system and I wouldn't get hungry again as soon. Please be careful about frequent small snacks unless your doctor recommends that. Most of what I've read is either 3 meals a day (my surgeon's preference) or 6 small meals a day. The other thing I noticed is you mention crackers and pretzels. I've found that if I eat carbs I get hungrier. I had crackers with my tuna at lunch once or twice and was hungry by mid-afternoon. If I avoid them I do better. We have a table next to my cubicle where the office staff puts snacks. There were some minature cheese-flavored puffed rice cakes on it yesterday. I read the label - not bad on anything but carbs so I sampled two. I was hungry the rest of he morning. Maybe that's just me, but I'm slowly learning carbs are not my friends.
