Relax, I am SURE I can too, and I am just 4 months post op.
Now I couldnt gobble it down, but chewed well eaten over the time of the
movie its normal. Its not a great food choice but not a terrible one either
since its all carbs. Relax....

I've done it also. It just melts in your mouth and it is gone before you
know it. Helen

I too was curious why I could eat so much popcorn and other snack foods
like chips when I was having trouble eating one bit of chicken. My doctor
explained to me that WLS patients could easily eat food items that dissolve
or disintegrate in water. He said if you put a food item in a glass of
water and it more or less disintegrate, we would have no trouble eating.

Relax! We are all human and we have all done similar things.
The key is to learn from the experience. Soft, mushy, crunchy
foods won't fill us up; so, there are no controls....other than
staying away from them. One bag of popcorn certainly did no harm;
an occassional splurge is ok.

I'm 13 months post op but at 7 months I could eat a whole bag of microwave
popcorn too. I actually make a point of eating a whole bag every single
day now. It's GREAT for fiber and even has protein!! You can eat a whole
bag of Orville Reddenbacher Butter Lite for just over 250 calories. I find
that having my bag of popcorn every evening satisfies that desire to
crunch, crunch, crunch. It also eliminate grazing because it takes a while
to eat it and the best part is that it's good for us. So enjoy your
popcorn and don't worry about it!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

I went and saw Harry Potter last saturday and bought a small popcorn. I am
7 weeks post-op. I surprised myself as well, by being able to eat that
whole bag of popcorn! I ate it slowly, one kernal at a time, thinking I'd
stop as soon as I got that signal from my new tummy, telling me I was full.
It never came! But, later I felt sick and I think that has to do with the
butter and fat. I am in agreement with other posters on this board. Once
in a while won't hurt (like the next Harry Potter movie)and if it dissolves
then I don't need to worry that eating that much stretched my pouch

popcorn, like crackers, dissolve rather quickly almost melt in your
mouth..so yes you can eat lots more of these types of foods.. BUT beware
the carbs and calories add up quickly also.. When you make popcorn
portion out one cup and give the family the rest.. also be careful eating
while watching TV.. Don't get into the grazing mode very dangerous.. I
know been there dome that.. :) If you feel that head hunger fill it with
water first.. I know you're probably sick and tired of hearing that.. BUT
it is true..The impulse for hunger is stronger than thirst and the signals
get confused.. when our bodies are saying I'm dehydrating it comes out
FEED ME FOOD.. always drink 8-10 oz of water when you feel that hunger if
between meals before you eat anything..

i am 5 1/2 mo post op open rny (-87#). i could also eat a whole bag of
popcorn-even the first time i tried it. i called everyone i knew that had
had wls cause i thought THATS TOO MUCH! but i found out i'm normal! its not
uncommon, it does disolve very quickly in your mouth. i just don't make a
big habit out of having it anymore. post op i ate it everyday, now most of
my working days, on my breaks i'll eat a small bag (1 1/2 oz) of pretzels,
and it fills me up! i still do the popcorn , lite butter but not that
often. hey-enjoy all you still can food is still wonderful-we just don't
eat nearly as much!

I love popcorn and eat it almost daily. I can easily eat 3 cups of
popcorn. I air pop mine and use just a tsp. of low fat margerine on it and
then a bit of butter salt, the no-cal, no-fat kind and its wonderful! My
doctor has no problem with me eating popcorn which I'm very grateful for
because it really satisfies that hand to mouth action I sometimes need.

Popcorn is mostly air. Think about it: When you first put the bag in the
microwave there are no more than 2-3 ounces of kernels in there. The
microwave doesn't add anything, the water in the kernels expands with the
heat and POPS the corn so it takes up more room. Isn't popcorn great? It is
one of my favorite snacks when I feel the munchies coming on. I can just
eat and eat and feel like I am really chowing down without getting sick or
eating a whole lot of carbs.
