Question:
I am wondering what my intake will be like

I have read on here about all the different things one must take after surgery, but I would like to see it all together so I can grasp it better. Like what kinds of things will I have to take after surgery, such as vitamins, supplements, proteins, etc. and how often. Thanks.    — Lynda T. (posted on November 1, 2001)

First, you need to ask your Dr. he should be giving you a list of things he wants you to take. Personally I take a centrum, a one daily vitamin, 1500 mg calcium(split, 1/2 in morning, 1/2 evening) and iron (I take slowfe) Really though, your dr should be telling you what to take.

I am 3 months post RNY my doc has me on: 1 Chromagen Forte taken twice a day( it is an prescription iron plus other vitaminns supplement other vitamins), 1200 to 1500 mg of calcium citrate taken in divided doses(your body can only absorb 500 mg of calcium at any one time), 2 centrum or geritol complete aday. In addition I added zinc and biotin to help the hair. I havent used protein supplements since the third post op week and have no trouble getting in a minimum of 60 gms of protein daily. Hope this helps. Best wishes

First of all, it is best to follow the advise of your doctor. So many of us are on different protocols. I am 4 weeks post op, I take 2 Flintstone Vitamins, Magnisium, Iron Sulfate, and a Tum with Lunch and Dinner. In addition I am on a protein shake, that I take in addition to my 3 - 4oz. meals.

I'm one month post-op, and my surgeon recommends two multi-vitamins daily (one mid-morning and one mid-evening), one vitamin A&D pill, one vitamin B-12 pill, and two to three Tums daily. (If you can find the sugar-free Tums, they're VERY good...not chalky at all, and the flavor is good, too. [Orange Cream])

A suggestion that was given to me was to ask for a copy of your blood work from your physician and compare it.. i dont kn how to do this yet, but im going to try to learn. This will help you know what vitimans to pep up on. Michele Curran is also great at this and helpful if she knows what it reads. Jacki
