Question:
When I'm pre-op and able to eat solid foods what are some suggestions ....

I need suggestions for a quick on the go breakfasts for when I am (hopefully) pre-op and able to eat solid food. The thought of having to scramble and egg (ugh..hate eggs) or even cook early, early in the morning sounds so daunting to me! As it is now, I'm used to chowing down on a banana in the car on the way to work or eating a slim fast bar for breakfast at my desk as I'm getting going in the morning at work....any suggestions... Just to make it clear, I plan on following all instructions from my surgeon to the letter...I'm not a rebel...I'll do what I'm told to do to make this all work...whatever it takes..just don't tell me to cook eggs every morning..no time and literally no stomach for them that early in morning!!!    — kathleen-Joan piper (posted on March 12, 2003)

hi there :) im silly, i eat things for breakfast that arent "breakfast" food, for easy on the go stuff that you wouldnt have to prepare but are also high in protein, would be beef jerkey, string cheese, cottage cheese, any cheese, deli meats, nuts, sf or low sugar peanut butter on low carb crackers. best of luck to you! :)

I always have a protein drink FIRST, before any solid food. I'm also a non-bfast person. Then, an hour or so later, I HAD a fave protein bar (but it would not be Slim Fast--that has more sugar than the Milky Way I'd prefer), but it was discontinued. Some people like a fast food bfast, others like string cheese. Currently, on the go, I just do the shake. Not in the mood for food.

Before I developed an intolerance to dairy, I ate yogurt. I can't stand eggs either, but I've sometimes found that I can eat a little egg salad on crackers. I don't do that often because I try to avoid carbs wherever possible. After about 6 months, I started eating a Balance Gold bar on the way to work. I commute an hour each way and I need something to get me going. You may be able to tolerate all the sugar in a Slimfast bar, but I can't...it's just to much. I stick to the Balance Gold. The Triple Chocolate Chaos has no nuts in it so you may tolerate it well after the 2nd or 3rd month...just make sure you follow your doctor's instructions and be on full solid foods before trying this.

I have found that I just can't have food first thing in the morning so I too have my shake first thing. I had to force it at first because I am just not a breakfast eater. It is now just part of my day and it really keeps me fine until lunch and then I have 2 oz. of chicken and cheese or tuna. Mid afternoon I have a protein bar and then i have 2-3 oz of meat for dinner, usually chicken in tomato sauce. When I am premenstrual I add another snack mid morning (protein again)like yogurt and sometimes an evening snack like some apple sauce (a big treat for me!)I think that it takes a while but I have found after just 2 months that it seems pretty natural. I just make sure that i have what I need on hand so that I am not dipping into the carbs at snack time. Normally I have all of that time between breakfast and lunch and after dinner to get all of my water in.
