Question:
Have strictures, now surgery? Help!
Anyone had a stricture post op and had to be dilated numerous times. I have 2 friends (one is a member, Monica Ward)who had surgery about the same time and both are having strictures. One, we are sure it is not the mesh ring around the stoma it is further along. The other has not had her upper GI yet. THey have both had to be stretched several times already and now the surgeon is talking surgery. Can anyone give us some info and support on the stricture thing, like how many times did you have to be dilated before it "took" and did anyone have to finally have surgery? How did you do. Thanks. — Kristy J. (posted on January 10, 2003)

I had 2 strictures, both dilated and then thought it was happening a third
time. It got pretty tight, but waited it out for a short while, then
relaxed on its own. You can read more about my experience on my profile
page. Strictures only occur in about 2-3% of the WLS population, and
usually occur twice when it does happen.

I've had 4 strictures in 6 weeks!!! I am scared to death of
"blowing" the stoma or pouch. Gotten scoped and dialated each
time. I am really scared about strictures.= Otherwise, I am doing
FABULOUS!!! Lost 57 pounds in 11 weeks. Kathy
