Question:
I am 5 weeks post -op today and I am still having trouble getting food to stay down
Does any one have some Ideas as to what I can try to eat that may stay down. — Jackie G. (posted on April 10, 2001)

Jackie,
Try drinking some decaf. tea (peppermint is very soothing)in the evening
before you go to bed. You may have a large amount of mucous in your pouch
because of "frothing". The tea will melt it and let it pass. This
may help clear the way for food. Good luck!

when i was newly post op , 4 weeks I had clear luquids, 5 wks full liquids
, 6wks i was allowed pureed foods . Eat what YOUR doctor has suggested and
nothing more. He or she knows you inside(!!) and out. But do try the advise
Jeanne has offered you and for the reason she states , I tried the tea
(same kind) and camomile and it helped me. Good luck.

I have to say that Chamomile tea has been a lifesavor for me. It tends to
settle the tummy and allow me to relax. I also tried the string cheese and
it was great. Remember, really small bites. When I need something to snack
on I have found bread sticks with sesame seeds go down very well. 3 small
bread sticks are only 70 calories ( I usually only eat 2) and only 2 grams
of fat. Best of luck

One other thing I forgot to mention... I asked the surgeon about the
breadsticks and he said they were fine. I was worried about the seeds.
Anyway I think eating these have built me up to where I can tolorate
different foods. I was 8 weeks post op when I started.
