Question:
any one NOT have a binder or restrictive garment after tummy tuck??
I am 6 weeks post op from a full tummy tuck the dr removed 5 1/2 lbs with tightening of the underlying muscles. He did not have me where any type of binder or restrictive garment at all for my recovery. I have a low tolerance for pain but I do not take pain meds except Tylenol pm at night I still have a fair ammount of pain.I am very swollen and can not wear the pants that were big on me before the surgery. I have had to buy elastic waist pants. I was wondering if I should go get something to wear if it would help at all I do not see my doc again till the 20th of may I need you women who have had a tt to give me advice.. I had a breast reduction/lift the end of aug. last year and it was nothing compared to the tt .my doc didn't have me wear any type of binder with that surgery either....I just want to heal the best way I can. thanks — alexjakemom (posted on April 29, 2005)

I just had an abdominoplasty about 12 weeks ago. I had 6 pounds removed and
lipo and muscle tightening also. Coming out of surgery, I had a binder and
I was wearing a flexie (used to be called girdle) 24 hours per day until
last week. I took it off to shower, that's it. Initially, if I didn't have
the binder on for more than 1/2 hour, my muscles would really ache. The
support of the binder really helped me. I also understand that once healed,
the results are better if you keep a binder on for as long as possible.

That wasnt very smart of your doctor. you need to wear a support garment
24/7 for at least 6 weeks. otherwise you will develope swelling with the
dimpiling and cottage cheese look. you wouldnt go through all that surgery
for lumps and bumps. the skin needs to adhere to the muscle without the
fat. i would get myself a tight fitting one TODAY and a smaller size in two
weeks. Tracey

I have not had my TT yet but all of my friends who have had theirs either
wore a medical restrictive garment (binder) or they took it upon themselves
to invest in a really good "Heavy Duty Training Corset." HTH!

I have not had my tt yet - May 24 is my day! I had a binder for 8 weeks
after my wls and I honestly think it helped me immensely. I have a very
narrow scar and healed fairly quickly. I agree with the post that said go
out and get one girl. It can't hurt. Good luck!!

NO BINDER HERE! I had a triple hernia repair and abdominal plasty with
muscle tightening back in Sept 04. (I am 7 months out) I had 2 plastic
surgeons do my surgery and I also had it done at a teaching hospital, which
both of my surgeons are teachers there. They do not believe in binders of
any kind,, not all plastic surgeons use binders, each surgeon is
different,, I never used any type of binder, I turned out just fine. Its
just like some surgeons have you clean out your system before gastric
bypass surgery, and mine just had me stop eating at midnight before
surgery,, they all have there own way of doing things,,, Im sure you will
be fine and heal good,, good luck to you.... Amy

Hi. I had a LBL and wore my girdle 24/7 for 6 months....lol. I loved the
support and it really helped with the swelling. Some PS's use them and
some don't. I got mine at Wal-Mart. It's the Cupid brand and it has hooks
up the center. They come in several styles and cost about 10 dollars.
Best I found.

My Dr. had me wear one as long as I was willing to. I lasted almost 4
months. I wore panty girdles during the day, and the wrap binder at night.
I needed the support. He said that the binders help the skin and muscles
heal back to each other.

We do not use a binder. Sounds like you might have had some muscle work
done as well? Our docs pull the skin very snugly, so they don't threaten
the blood supply and really don't want us to use them. I understand they
feel pretty comfy, but my tuck is nice and snug 9.5 yrs later

Hi
Im 13 days out of my tt with muscle tightening. I received a girdle type
garment in the hospital and when i went to see my dr the next day, he gave
me a another girdle a size large. very tight and restrictive. i had to
get use to it and it still is very tight. when i went back for my 1 week
checkup the nurse gave me a size smaller girdle. Let me say this My doctor
beleives in the girdle and i was told to wear it for 1 month from my
surgery date. I feel that it keeps things in place, and it really does
work. All dr's are different. I had to wear a girdle after my WLS for 6
weeks. Good Luck

I wore a panty girdle. Try the ones called "flexees". You
should be wearing some sort of compression garment - the binder they gave
me was too big so it didn't work. I found the panty girdle a good choice
and I wore is 24/7 for 3 months post-op.
