Question:
Has anyone had to take Prednisone after surgery?

I just got a RX today because of a nasty case of poison ivy, the side effects listed are freaking me out. Should we be on such medicine with our little tummies?    — Lori K. (posted on April 28, 2005)

I had to take one dose a couple of weeks ago. It did exactly what it was supposed to without any side effects. If you have to take it for an extended length of time, call your surgeon to see what he recommends.

Lori, I was prescribed prednisone last fall for sciatic nerve pain. A 9-day course. By day 5 my little pouch was burning up. It was so painful, I could hardly move. My doc made me stop the course immediately and prescribed nexium for a month. All cleared-up. Just be careful. Patty

In my opinion, I would not take this again. My back was killing me so my doctor prescribed it for me because my back was killing me and he could not give me advil or motrin and I needed to take an anti-inflammatory. I had to take 2 a day for 4 days and then the remaining 4 days I took 1 a day. let me tell you I took the medicine but one the 8th day all of a sudden I got so sick. I have had an upset stomach and severe nausea for the past few days. I went back to my surgeon and he could not figure out what was wrong with me until I told him I took the prednisone. He told me and I quote if the pcp prescribes this for me say no unless i am dying. I messed up my stomach somehow and I am currently on prevacid for the next two weeks. I do not know how this medicine will effect you but me personally will never take it again and I can bet on that.

Hi, I took prednisone a couple of times and it worked so good! I felt perky while on it too. I liked it. Remember that any antiinflammatory is not so good for your tummy so be sure to take prevacid, prilosec or some such with it and you won't have a problem and y our pain will get better.

I've been on Predisone for just over two years, 5 mg a day for my Crohn's and RA. I was on before, thru and after my RNY. The only side effects I've had is my skin is a little thinner, I have had ulcers before and after surgery and most of my doctors are very unhappy with me. If they can find anything else that will help me I will stop taking it. But again this is a small dose.

I have Rheumatoid arthritis and was put on prednisone for about 2 months. During this time I have gained from my lowest of 194 to 208 lbs and am not happy with it. It makes me hungry more and opted to stop taking it. I have pain constantly and just deal with it now best as I can. To each his own. I had to take prilosec or pepcid ac when I took it. It prevents healing and breaks down body tissue as I am told and would not be able to take it anymore, but it helps ease my pain with RA.
