Question:
Why can't we take time released vitamins?
I know I read something on here a long time ago about not taking time relased vitamins. Can someone tell me why you cannot have time released vitamins. My iron is low and last week I took a time released iron tablet and my stomach was unhappy all day long. — neneburge (posted on January 30, 2004)

Well, being time release may not have been the reason your tummy was
unhappy with the iron, but the reason time release is iffy for bypass
patients is because of the shortened intestines...it may be releasing in a
sewer somewhere. :))

Hi. I had to have my medication changed from time-released too. That's also
why I wont take ANY vitamins, aspirin, etc in tab/cap/pill form.
Malabsorbtion.. I take chewable/liguid/powder EVERYTHING....

Two reasons . . .

1. No digestion. Some meds require stomach acid to break down the
coatings, etc.

2. Shortened gut. We have bypassed intestines, and may not have enough
time to break down tablets, time release meds, etc.

Even regular meds may not be absorbed well. Keep an eye on your symptoms
to see if you are getting benefit from your meds.
