Question:
Pasta cravings

Yesterday, I went to a resturant with some friends - I was indeed hungry and thought I'd have soup - but the resturant only had Pea Soup w/ham - *BARF* I dislike pea soup unless it's from my old time favorite Greek Resturant (no meat). So I ordered Baked Ziti - there was no way I could eat the plate they give - but I found out that pasta went down easily - I only manage to chew (throughly) about 5-10 zitis - Has anyone ever gone back to pasta. Prior to counseling with my endocrinologist - I craved pasta - now if I think of it I'm able to send the thoughts back.    — Anna M. (posted on January 14, 2004)

Interesting that you asked "Has anyone ever gone back to pasta." I had my surgery at BTC almost 3 and a half years ago and to this day, none of the dieticians has ever told me not to eat pasta. I maybe only have it once every week to 10 days, and I've never had a problem with it. In fact, if you go to Olive Garden, you can order just a side of whichever pasta you like for $1.75 and then whichever sauce you like for $1.50 to $2.25. If your server doesn't know this, tell them you were told that a lot of the newer servers don't know this and they can check with someone, like a manager, who knows. Good luck!

Pasta makes my heart race like a thoroughbred horse in a race to the finish line! (and that is WITHOUT any sauce) I really like pasta, but you know what, to avoid that minor form of dumping-feeling, I'll pass!

Funny thing. Now that you mention it, pasta is one thing that I don't crave. I do like it, but would never consider ordering a pasta meal. I taste others, and would take a spoonful at a buffet, but don't think I could eat a main meal of it. I tend to eat the bulk of my meal in protein, so not enough room for pasta to do too much damage. Oh, and it doesn't make me dump at all either. Good luck!

I do any pastas except actual SPAGHETTI. I dunno, it just makes me miserable. But I do angel hair, lasagna, other kinds of noodles. Go figure.

The more carbs I eat ...the more carbs I crave. Pasta, breads etc are very dangerous for me!

I eat pasta and have no problem/dumpint with it. In fact, when I feel nauseous or cannot eat anything else, pasta goes down easy and I can eat it without any problems. I find it very soothing when I'm having a hard time thinking about eating.

I am a few days away from being 8 months post and I have eaten pasta all along with no problems at all. I find when I do it eat, I eat till I'm satisfied and I have no further cravings for it. HTH

I was never told not to eat pasta, or rice, or potato or bread.I used to scarf down big huge bowls of pasta and sauce, but now, even 2 years post-op, I can only have a small amount of pasta, a few bites before getting very full, so altho I have it on occasion, no more than a few bites. I don't think any food is off limits to us, its a matter of balance. Protein first, always.

Thanks for the responses all. As I said I don't eat much and as with another member, sometimes I cannot eat anything, but a few pieces of pasta chewed well goes not easy and satisfys me. It really wierd to be hungery (in my mind) but not in my tummy.

I eat pasta all the time, I love linguini with alfredo sauce from Red Lobster, 1 order will last me 3 meals. I do not hold back on my food cravings. I did not have this surgery to be on a diet for the rest of my life. I started @ 249 5'8 and now I am 135. My surgery was 4/24/03. I feel great. The only thing I limit is sugar products, I do not drink cokes or eat much candy but other than that I eat what I want.
