Question:
Dog ears?
I've seen references to dog ears after having only a panni vs. a "real" tummy tuck -- what are they, what do they look like? Thanks! — jen41766 (posted on August 17, 2003)

I had a TT in april and complimented to my PS about having NO dog ears; his
comment was 'you dont have any dog ears - cause I spent the TIME to prevent
them'. "dog ears" is the name given to 'excess' skin that can be
on either side of your panni/or TT if the PS didnt do a good job. This
skin has to be 'removed' later; ususally in the doctors office. its just
extra skin thats called dog ears cause they flap/flop on the side of your
body like a 'dog' ear would. If you dont have any be thank ful. I just
assumed dog ears were or could be 'normal' but according to my ps you
should get any

Any surgery where the skin is removed and the new areas sewn back together
can get them. Just try taking a flour tortilla, cut out a section and push
the remaining pieces together, where they sort of poke up at the start of
each side of the incision is what you'd call a dog ear (at least of sorts!
LOL.) Anyhow, even if you get them your surgeon should be able to
accomidate you and do a touch up to make things right once you're healed.
My incision ended at my backbone just below my waist. I thought for sure I
was going to end up with one on my left side as it was pretty puffed out,
but it layed down nicely when it healed. Its not something you need to
worry about, other than making sure what your surgeon is going to do/charge
if he has to touch that up.
