Question:
I am 2 weeks post-op. I can drink lots of liquid and never have felt full .

Ater drinking or eating thin soups I have yet to feel full. I can eat a whole jello and nothing. Anyone else experience this. Can you stretch your pouch with liquid.    — Kelly P. (posted on July 7, 2003)

Hon, don't worry about taking in lots of liquids and not feeling full. Liquids go right through the pouch like water down a drain. And right now, you won't feel hungry or full - the pouch is healing and the sensations just aren't there. If you feel hungry, it's probably head hunger. I sipped CONSTANTLY the entire time I was awake; some days I drank over 50 ounces of V8 juice in 15 hours and that was besides soup broth, jello and popsicles and Crystal Light. You are fine; in fact the more liquid you get in, the better.

Kelly, I am with you, I am only 1 week out and I can get in at least 70-80 oz. of liquid in a day. I also am eating cottage cheese and chew it until it is in liquid form and never seem to feel full. I only stop eating it because I am afraid I'm eating too much! My Dr. bypassed my entire stomach so I know I have had enough bypassed. I don't know what the deal is. Somedays I am happy about this because I had read so many profiles were everyone says how hard it is to get in their water and liquids but for me it's been pretty easy and on other days I get scared because I'm so afraid I'm going to stretch my pouch and not lose any weight. Sorry I wasn't mush help I just wanted to let you know you are not alone here:) Good luck and take care! Audrey

Keep up the good work on getting fluids in! For some people that's very hard, and it's SO important. As a previous poster said, you won't feel full on liquids. Trust me, the full feeling will return with a vengeance once you're on regular food. You'll know when you're full on food. In the meantime, keep those liquids coming!

I think it is very normal for you to feel the way you do right now. You're so new, you'll be going through changes in the way you feel as you change the food regimes that your Dr. mandates. But, the one thing that I want to mention to you is about the 'feeling full.' I don't think, if I'm truly honest with myself, (ouch that hurts!) that I ever really knew what it felt like to 'be full' when I was M.O. Yes, I know what it felt like to be stuffed. But, rarely did I understand or stop at full, never mind where I should have- which is at SATISFIED, not full. You will probably have to deal with these issues as you progress. Right now, just ocncentrate on following doctor's orders and getting in as much liquids as you can. For the future, I encourage you to think about being 'satisfied' and being 'full' in new ways and try to really listen to your body very closely. By the way- if it makes you feel more 'normal' most people can't feel 'full' from liquids alone! Best of luck to you in your journey!

Dont worry about not feeling full at this point. I didnt have a full feeling until I started on solid foods and then the full feeling hits so fast. I am 3 months out and can still only eat a few bites without feeling stuffed. Keep up the good work and dont worry.
