Question:
Does anyone drink Lactose Free Slim-Fast with Soy Protein?
I am 3 months post op RNY and don't feel like I get enough protein in. I have tried different protein supplements but can't force the nasty things down. I remember liking the flavor of SlimFast pre-op and was wanting to hear from anyone that uses this product post-op. Do you like the flavor of it? How does it compare to the flavor of the regular Slim-Fast powders? (I don't like the ready to drink) Do you mix it with Water or Milk? Is it OK for us to have post-op? TIA — Anonymous A. Hi, I do know what you mean about taste. Some of that protein drink is
gross. I use "Spirulina" by Vitamin World. it is High Protein Soy
powder. It has 14g of protein and when you mix it with lactaid milk you get
another 8g so that is 22g. I mix it with 3 tablespoons og strawberry flavor
made by Atkins that has no cal, sugar, carbs but it makes the shake taste
very good. 1yr out and -100lbs. God Bless, your new freind in wls Janet

Hi, there has got to be a better way than slim-fast. I know it taste good
but ask anyone on here and nearly all will say we have gained a lot of
weight trying the slim-fast diet.

If I remember correctly, there's a LOT of sugar in those. I could be wrong,
I haven't looked at those labels for quite a while. Have you tried the EAS
shakes? The chocolate isn't too sweet, and not too gross. They are ALL
gross, but I am to the point where I don't really care what it tastes like.
I mix it with the least amount of water possible, add an ice cube, and chug
it down. I try to drink it so fast I don't have time to worry about the
taste. Then I drink a bunch of water. I really like the MGF-2 protein
shakes, but I ran out and tried the EAS in an emergency. They all suck
equally. ;)

Original poster here, The Lactose Free Slim Fast with Soy Protein is better
than regular Slim Fast it is mixed with water like alot of the protein
drinks. It has 170 calories, 2 g fat, 25 g carb (5 g fiber, 12 g sugar) and
15 g protein. Compare's almost identically to the, make me puke gross, No
Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast mixed with 1 cup of No Fat Milk
that everyone here seems to indorse. If it comes down to not getting enough
protein or drinking the Slim-Fast with a little extra carbs which would you
choose? I'm not going to drink the no cal, no carb protein crap. It is
gross and I can't force myself to drink it. By the way I started out as a
lightweight, BMI of 40.1 and I'm already over half way to goal. I'm
5'7" started out 264 and I've lost 65 lbs since surgery on Jan. 22nd.
I drink regular pop and have eaten sweets. I don't eat and drink low carb,
no sugar, no fat stuff only. I eat normal just smaller portions. I don't
dump so I'm not worried about that. I just want to try and up my protein
without barfing. If anyone has any experience with this product will you
share your info with me please? I want to know if the taste of the Lactose
Free Soy Protein Slim Fast is as good as the regular mix with milk
Slim-Fast.

12 grams of sugar is way to much for a protein drink....my surgeon said to
stay under 3 grams of sugar per serving.

While soy protein is o.k. we benefit far more from 100% Whey protein.
Vitalady has lots of good flavors and cookies and cream from vitaglo.com is
good too. 170 calories is way too much for only 15 grams of protein. I
tried the Real Meals and it was very tasty too. Keep searching - you'll
find the one that's just right for you.

Count your blessings. You have been very fortunate to have achieved your
weight loss in spite of eating sweets carbs and fats and drinking regular
pop.

I'm still pre-op, but according to surgeon and nutritionist, any slim-fast
product has too much sugar and carbs, and the protein in it is not absorbed
well in WLS patients, so you'll only get a fraction of the protein you
think you're taking in, while slowing down your weight loss. I would
recommend trying whey isolate protein powder drinks, they come in tons of
brands and flavors, like someone suggested you can get samples at
vitalady... I have tried a few so far and loved the Pro-Score 100, no
lactose, high protein (very absorbable!), no sugar, no carbs (I think, or
very few anyway)....I like the chocolate, not too sweet (I've heard many
say they can't tolerate sweet flavored drinks post op)....Look for one you
can stomach and stick to it, you'll really see the results in your weight
loss! Good luck!

Try shaking up 2 sc ProScore 100 chocoalte, with about 8 oz water + ice.
Similar flavor, 32g protein, 0g sugar, about 160 cal. MUCH betetr deal and
it's whey, so #1 bioavailable source of protein. If you like it sweeter,
apply the same formula to ProV 60. Of course, those are just the slightly
thicker ones. If you prefer more watery, there must be 100 of 'em on the
market.

Slim Fast has WAY too much added sugar for us RNY'ers. I contacted the
company who makes Slim Fast to ask if they had thought about a sugar-free
version. They researched it and emailed me and said in no uncertain
terms....absolutely not. They said that the most positive thing about
their product is the taste and the energy you get from the carbs and
sugars. If they took it out it would defeat the purpose.
