Question:
13 Days post-op....what is the normal loss for this time?
I had an open RNY 5/7/02 and have only lost 13lbs. Which I think is pretty good, the problem being, I lost that about 7 days after surgery and have stayed the same since. Should I be worried? I still cannot drink the 64oz yet, and since I can't eat much am not getting enough protein, but I guess I feel a bit discouraged today. I know I shouldn't get on the scale so often but am so anxious for my new figure to appear! : ) What have you people lost 13 days out, and for that matter, how much is "normal" per week/month? Thanks! : ) — Tracy T. (posted on May 20, 2002)

tracy, congratulations on the 13 pounds. i am 18 days post op and my scales
have not moved in a long time. everybody will say throw the scales away. i
would feel ok about the scales not moving, but my clothes don't feel any
different either. i know i have to be losing with all the more i eat, but i
just don't feel it. i have tried to veer away from the scales...good
luck...

I believe I had lost 22 pounds at 2 weeks, but at 3 weeks hit a plateau and
stayed there for the next 2 weeks! Its been very slow since then with a
few plateaus thrown in. Some people will lose faster than others, and alot
depends on how much you have to lose. Best thing is not to compare
yourself with anyone else as we all lose differently. And if you can stand
it, don't weigh yourself every day! Try for once a week.

Tracy -- Be glad that you've lost the weight you have. I lost about 20
pounds by week #2, but then I didn't loose anymore for about 10 days.
That's when I started drinking more water. It does work!! Don't give up,
the weight will come off. Good luck to you!

I've lost 26 pounds in 17 days. Of course I'm barely eating anything at
all. Keep your chin up and the weight will come off.
Take care.

Tracy, I am 4wk post-op and have lost 34lbs, that is about 1 pound per day
which is what your average is. Just think 1 lb a day for 100 days would be
100lbs. Sounds pretty darn good to me. I am very happy with mine.

There is NO 'NORMAL'. You have an entire YEAR ahead of you, I would be
concerned at 6 mos. and then consult my Doctor. Do not compare anything to
anyone else- as people loose slow/faster, nothing is STANDARD.
