Question:
Lots of medicine to take, but it upsets my stomach..
Has anyone had trouble getting in all the medications? I'm almost 4 weeks post-op, LAP RNY, and I have been having a horrible time taking all my meds. I am taking Actigall to prevent gall-stones, Prilosec to prevent ulcers, Zoloft to prevent depression, Allegra for allergies. All these medicines tear my stomach up, terribly. I am actually ill after taking them. I have to lay down and curl up, and I also get very nauseated for a long while afterwards. I've gotten to where I haven't been taking my meds, it's too miserable. Has anyone else faced this obstacle? What should I do? I need these meds, but it hurts and is so uncomfortable. — Pamela S. (posted on April 24, 2002)

Pam, I too take a lot of pills. Every morning I make a protein shake with
6 ounces of No sugar added Tang and 1 scoop of Designer Whey vanilla
protein mix. I whip this in the blender with a coouple of ice cubes until
it is foamy and smooth. I then sit with my pills and take one at a time
over about a half hour period. I then have breakfast about an hour later.
This has been working well for me. Good Luck!

Hi Pam,
I feel for you. 2 weeks after my surgery (open RYN)I developed a bladder
infection my family Dr. put me on real strong liquid antibodics and I
developed an ulcer. I called my surgeon and he said our new pouch couldn't
handle a lot of medications at first. He gave me liquid Carafate to take to
help heal my stomach. I was feeling much better in about 3 days. He told me
to take a liquid antiacid when ever I had to take medication. I stayed on
the liquid Carafate off and on for about 4 months till my new pouch could
handle medications better. I am 7 1/2 months post-op and can take all of my
medications but I drink buttermilk with them. Good luck to you. (((HUGS))))
