Question:
I feel like I am overeating but don't feel sick or over-full. Open RNY 2/13/02
For breakfast I had a scrambled egg w/ 1/4 cup low fat shredded cheddar. Lunch was 3 ounces of grilled chicken with 2 tbl of Chi-Chi's salsa. I had a whole orange as a snack. All of these were at least 3 hours apart and I am getting in about 72 ounces of water per day. I still haven't eaten dinner, probably will have some tuna or more chicken. Is this too much at once??? — J. T. (posted on April 2, 2002)

I am only 4 1/2 weeks post op. It is strange to think that a person can get
filled up on 3 oz of food, but it now happens. I don't think you are eating
that much. I am just on soft foods though.
But think back to what you used to eat? How does what you eat now compare
to that.
Sounds like you are doing great so keep up the good work.

I'm about 5 weeks post-op and I believe you are not over doing it.. how big
is your pouch? Mine is 4 oz and I can eat about as much as you.. the thing
is to stop if you feel full and to measure your intake so it doesnt strech.
Keep it up.. your doing great!

I cant say if it's too much or too little; BUT I had an open RNY 11/00 can
could from day one eat 1/2 cup of anything (pureed) then to solids etc..
and never threw up or 'felt' full. The surgeon was surprised but figured
since I wasnt throwing up 'everyting' was 'fine'.. TURNED OUT it wasnt.
After I healed.... it turned out I could eat 'unlimited' after an Upper GI
it showed my stoma (the opening from the pouch to the intestines was 'too
big' NO FOOD was staying in my pouch.... my surgeon refused to 'fix it'
since I was still loosing weight. I am 17 months post now. have plateued
out.. but STILL have to deal with 'over eating'.... big time! I have NO
limited on what I can eat; even fat I was got full eventually... Its been
an emotional rollercoaster.. and for those 'few' who say 'its only a tool'
YES I know... EXCEPT... how well wouldyou do if your tool wasn't working???
Ive heard of one doctor 'researching' how to fix it... but so far, unless
you can get a surgeon to try an fix it .. your out of luck.
hopefully this will not beyour problem; but if it is.. and its one I never
came across PRE OP.... you can still loose but you will have to work on the
'eating' part

Helen: my surgeon used a Silastic ring to prevent this stretching. Perhaps
you can find a surgeon to do this.

I'm 13 months post-op, and your diet sounds a lot like mine.
Unfortunately, you are only a few months out, so you are probably eating a
bit too much for your stage in the process.
