I suggest you email Vitalady - Michelle curran about this. She can tell
you what you need and why and can also sell you the products. I take a
calcium from her, as well as the b12 sublinguals. You just put these under
your tongue. Also you probably need iron and a good multivitamin. You do
need protein, but how much and how to get it partly depends on how far
post-op you are. Vitalady can tell you all that too.

Eileen, this is what I take under a daily basis per my Dr. 2 chewable
multi-vitamins (kids centrum complete), 1 caltrate plus (calcium), 1 iron
tablet, and B-12 sublingual (spelling?) every other day. I also take my
normal dosage of synthroid and I just added this on my own, it's something
called hairnourish I got from GNC to hopefully make my hair healthier. I
was able to buy everything I need between Wal-Mart and GNC. You should
also be getting between 50 and 60 grams of protein per day and they is done
thru food and protein drinks. There is a large variety of protein mixes
and some you may like and others you may not. Don't stock up on anything
until you know you'll like it. Good luck!

If you had the RNY or another kind of bypass, then yes--sublingual B12 is
probably a really, really good idea. Protein drinks help with bypass
patients, too. However, if you had the VBG (and are therefore absorbing
everything you take in), you're probably fine with a good chewable
multivitamin, extra calcuim, and the occasional protein drink to help keep
your protein up.
