Question:
Is the first bowel movement normally diarrhea????
I just got home post op 5 days with no bowel movement until now. When I went I had diarrhea and had to get my husband to wipe me. I followed the diet, had jello with protein, mixed that with my plain yogurt, had a popsicle, fudgsicle and a few tiny sips of nonfat milk mixed with protein powder. Was this normal and am I eating ok?? — Mandy M. (posted on June 16, 2001)

Sounds to me like you are doing just fine. You are eating correctly and
yes it is normal to expect diarrhea at first. Remember that are not
putting any thing solid into you stomach in order to form hard stool.
Relax you are doing just fine.

Yep, that's from all the fluids you get in the hospital. Gotta go
somewhere! Until I started 'going', my legs were so swollen they felt like
they were sunburned. Just stay close to the potty for the next couple of
days :)

Yup...for me it lasted a week or so...and then, was totally the reverse!
Total constipation! Don't know which one is worse, but be relieved,
neither lasts to long!! Good luck
