Question:
BCBS - Is there anyone who has BCBS (Federal) and gotten them to pay for a TT & Thigh lift?
I am a federal employee in the state of Mississippi and am covered under Blue Cross Blue Shield (Federal employee benefit plan). I had no trouble getting them to pay for the gastric bypass in Dec 1989. I have looked into my policy for having a tummy tuck and thigh lift. On page 42, it defines cosmetic surgery as any operative procedure or any portion of a procedure performed primarily to improve physical appearance though a change in bodily form - unless required for a congenital anomaly or to RESTORE or CORRECT a part of the body that has been altered as a RESULT of accidental injury, disease, or SURGERY. To me this means that they should pay for the tuck and the lift. They have denied me twice, and I plan on an appeal to OPM in Washington. I saw a plastic surgeon who wrote a letter to them too, because of the skin break down and rashes under the apron. I am in desperate need here seeking anyone who has this plan and gotten them to pay for it. Thanks Lisa Arnold — Lisa A. (posted on May 25, 2001)
