Question:
My PCP has a question. Will I be able to take my antiinflamatories after surgery ?
I experience arthritis and can't go without. I can barely walk without them. My back and joints are affected. — Amy D. (posted on February 15, 2001)

Amy, like you, I suffer from arthritis. My hips are affected to the point
where I cannot walk without anti-inflamatory medication. However, my
surgeon does NOT allow ANY anti-inflamatories after surgery. I have read
that some will allow Celebrex or Vioxx, but my surgeon won't. I was
concerned, until I spoke to some post-ops at a support group meeting my
surgeon's office holds. They all said that they had no need for the
anti-inflamatories after the surgery. By the time they were off pain meds
for the surgery, they had lost enough weight to feel comfortable. And
these were some people who suffered greatly from joint pain. Hope this
helps!! ((((Hugs))))

Hi,
My surgeon's have a website & in it they state NO NSAIDS....like Motrin
Ibuprofen products, etc... Their website address is www.sabariatric.com.
Read around in it in the post-op sections I think. I was in a car
accident...rear-ended by a drunk driver & have neck/shoulder pain.
Emergency room & follow-up orthopedist put me on
Celebrex....100mg...then uped to 200mg. They all knew I had WLS & it
supposedly is easier on the new "baby stomach." Read the site
pages....hope this helps some. Thom

Hi, My surgeon told me: Do not take Anti-Imflammatory drugs because they
can irritate your stomach lining and this could develop into a bleeding
ulcer. These include: Advil, Alka-Selzer, Anacin, Ascriptin, Aspirin,
Bufferin, Coricidin, Cortisone, Dolobid, Empirin, Exedrine, Feldene,
Fiorinol, Ibuprofen, Indocin, Meclomen, Motrin, Nelfon, Naprosyn, Aleve,
Norgesic, Toectin, Vanquish. YOU MAY TAKE: Tylenol, Celebrex, Vioox,
Arthrotec or Ultram.
I get sever migraines so this was so important for me to know. Hope this
helps!
