Question:
Vioxx. Is anyone taking this post op?

Hi all! I am 3 weeks away(Dec 28) from my Lap RNY and my pcp has taken me off Celebrax and replaced it with Vioxx due to the fact that Vioxx comes in both liquid and small tablet form(s). Can someone let me know if they are using Vioxx, how its working with them post-op and how soon after surgery did they resume taking it? Thanks and good luck to everyone pre-op and post-op    — k K. I don't think this will help, but ...I am on Effexor (150mg) and my doc was going to put me back on Prozac, but I don't like that one. We opened a capsule and it has tiny-tiny miniscule pills inside the capsule and I can continue taking the med even post-op, but I can crush it because it's a time release medication. He said I don't have to discontinue taking it at any time for the surgery. Good luck!

This is not exactly an answer to your question but keep an eye on how your system reacts to the Vioxx. I took it for a while and it didn't seem to do what it was supposed to do as far as relieving my discomfort. It also didn't agree with my bowels. My doctor switched me to Celebrex and it was a WORLD of difference as far as pain relieving and alot easier on the other part of my body too. Keep a watch on any side effects....especially with surgery in the near future.

I recently hurt my knee playing soccer (never thought I would be able to say THAT:) and my orthopedic Dr. called my surgeon and asked about what I could take for inflammation other than Tylenol. No steroids long term, so he recommended Vioxx- and it worked like a charm for me. I was off of it in less than a week with no side effects at all. It is my understanding that Vioxx is much easier on the stomach. However, I am 10 months postop, so I couldn't tell you how soon you could take it after surgery. postop.

I am three months post op and was taking Vioxx before surgery. I felt so good after surgery that I didn't take it for a while, but then the pain returned (big time!). I have just about every "itis" you can think of - bursitis, arthritis, and fibromyalgia. I think it was at about my six week check I asked my surgeon if I could take the Vioxx and he said sure, so I went back on it for a couple weeks. I'm through the bad spell and haven't taken it for about two weeks now. Since the first of November I've started using my treadmill 3-4 times a week and just made it to the mile mark. That may not sound like much, but for someone who it hurts to take every step that's quite an accomplishment! I saw my pcp on Friday for a sinus infection and he was so impressed at the 56 pounds I've lost and that I can walk a mile now that he gave me a great big hug! You have to remember that we're all different - what works for me may not work for you or the next person. Work with your doctor to find what works best for YOU. Good luck!

Just a few more days until you start your "journey" to a healthier life! My husband and I both had wls in March/April 2000. We've lost 130/114 respectively and feel GREAT! My dh was on VIOXX pre-op then post-op. Unfortunately he developed an ulcer in his new pouch and the dr. attributed it to the VIOXX. Please be careful and listen to your body. Having lost 130 pounds has helped him with the pain in his ankles, he has some soreness but nothing like before. Good luck! "Teach"

I am taking Vioxx and also Neurotin, I have been taking it since I returned from the Hospital, also was recieving it after my surgery, didnt have any problems so far. Good luck.
