Question:
Has anyone experienced increased apetite from taking Zyrtec?
I just started taking Zyrtec for my allergies and have noticed at night, especially an increase in my apetite? Anyone else out there have similar experiences. I have taken Alevert with no change in apetite. The insert does not specify such but just curious how others are doing who take Zyrtec? — Karen Renee (posted on March 18, 2005)

Talk to your local pharmacist. They should have a big book of drugs (I'm
sure that's not the real name). In it is listed all the drugs and all the
side effects patients dealt with. The insert in the medicine packet only
lists the most common ones. For example, I used to take inderol and I would
get really wierd dreams where I would sleep walk... it was in the big book
o' drugs as a side effect. The pharmacist found it for me. Good luck!

Bettyanne J. That is the real name of the meds. I am also on it and it was
the same with me with the food. but the more I take it the less it bothers
me. but always talk to your doc about questions you have.

I too experienced in increase in appetite when I first started taking
Zyrtec. But I have been on it now for over two months and I noticed my
appetite decreasing about 2 weeks after I started. I would say to try to
take it at night before you go to bed, but I tried that already and I
noticed I was still senstive to allergens during the day, so I started back
to taking it in the morning and I feel much better now. So just give it
some time. Kelly

Hello,
I sometimes prescribe Zyrtec. It is an antihistimine and sometimes they
rarely stimulate appitite...so maybe it is a possibility......

I've been on Zyrtec and other antihistamines for years and have not noticed
an increase in my appetite, but I do think it's a YMMV thing. Good luck!
