Protein first, and pretty much anything else that doesn't have refined flour or white sugar. I eat fruit sparingly since I'm a raging carb addict and it can trigger a binge.

At 2+ years out I can eat normal sized portions, for example, at a restaraunt I can eat half of the dinner salad, 2/3 of a small steak, and a bite or two of the side. I can eat a whole hamburger with the bun (but I usually go bunless) and a couple of the evil fries. I can eat small amounts of sugar but not a whole dessert. I avoid white sugar and white flour most of the time. I still focus on protein first then vegetatbles, whole grains, and fruit.

I am almost 3 yrs post op. I am also 2 mos post op TT/hernia repair. I still have a very small capacity. When I has my mesh repair the surgeon commented on the still-small size of my pouch. I eat WAY more than at first of course, but I can no-way eat a hamburger with a bun or even a whole sandwich. I can eat half sandwich or a hamburger minus the top or fluffy part of the bun. If I eat any bread, its pretty much over. It fills me up way fast. If we eat out, I usually order soup, and maybe a sweet potato or baked potato, then eat a few bites of my husbands meat. I eat a total of about 4-5 bites meat, and 2-3 bites of whatever else. Chili or soup, I can A LOT of, like 10-12 ounces if empty pouch, as it goes right thru. This is also true of any soft foods, if Im in need of protein, I either drink fortified skim milk at 11 g protein per cup or eat about 3-4 ounces cottage cheese. BUT - everyone is different, we all eat differently at this stage and as long as you are getting in your required protein and taking your vits and supps, youre good to go! Good Luck!
