Question:
Has anyone had their plastic surgeon do their belly button piercing?
I have read that some plastic surgeons will pierce the belly button at 3 months post op. Has anyone had this done? What doctors have did this? Thank you. — Kimberly V. (posted on July 12, 2004)

Actually I went to a piercer and they would not do it and my doc said he
would. I am going as soon as I can make an appointment.

OMG, I was just wondering this. I had a hernia repair in February. My PCP
feels I shouldn't get my belly button pierced because I have the gortex
mesh panel in there and she is afraid they will hit it. I just had my RNY 2
months ago but it is already obvious that I can not do enough situps to
keep up with the panni. So I was just thinking...when I go see a plastic
surgeon about a tummy tuck, I will ask about what happens to the gortex and
if there is any way he will do the piercing since he will know exactly
where it is. Let me know how it goes for you. Best wishes.

My PS did mine 6 months post op from TT. My body rejected the first one,
probably due to extensive scar tissue in that area. His nurse did the
second one a few weeks ago on the bottom of the belly button instead of the
top and it seems to be doing ok for now. It takes a long time to heal. I
hope this one stays in!!

I was also told by a piercer that he felt I would reject a belly button
piercing because of the shape of my relocated belly button and the scar
tissue. I had really had my heart set on having it pierced, so I think
I'll wait until the navel quits trying to close up, and then have it
pierced. I'll take the chance of having the ring be rejected. I can't
really ask my plastic surgeon if she does piercing because I quit going to
post op visits when I found out she was charging me for each one. Heads up
to everyone looking into reconstructive surgery. Ask about post op visits
being included. Most do, but find out ahead of time just to make sure. S

FOR ONE, PROFESSIONAL PIERCERS ARE CALLED THAT FOR A REASON. ARE YOU GOING
TO TRUST YOUR DENTIST TO DO YOUR PLASTIC SURGERY? HONESTLY MY HUSBAND WAS A
PIERCER AND AT MINIMUM YOU NEED TO WAIT 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING TO
THAT TISSUE. THERE IS A REASON A PIERCER WON'T TOUCH YOU BEFORE THAT. YOUR
SKIN IS NOT READY. WHY WAIST YOUR TIME AND THE PAIN IN A PIERCING THAT IS
GOING TO CAUSE YOU SO MUCH PAIN AND INFECTION YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE IT
ANYWAYS?
