Dawn, your answer is in your post. Don't buy the bits and bites and Doritos. Clean the house out now! For some, the temptation of having those items in the house is too much. Can you stomach protein drinks? If so, whenever you feel a craving coming on, head for the protein... Also, things will get better for you when you get off of pureed foods. I know that until I was eating solid food, the head hunger was enormous. I wanted that Burger King Whopper in the worst way!! Try to talk some sense into yourself. Why did you have this surgery? Do you want to be as successful as you possibly can? You can do this, sweetie.

I don't consider any foods bad. I consider some foods better though. I would limit foods like that to once or twice a month. That's what I do and because I am allowed, I don't need them as much as I used to. Before they were forbidden. I grew up fat. So my parents never let me have sugar cereal or potato chips, etc. When I became an adult, it's all I'd eat because it wasn't allowed. Now I know I can eat if if I want. I actually have a deal. I am allowed a small bag of chips whenever I want one. I've had chips ZERO times since surgery. I don't want them because I can have them. Now sugar makes me dump, so that where I am in the zone of wanting things a bit more. But even then, I have a tiny bit then I'm good for a week or two. There really are no bad foods in moderation. As for eating while you are supposed to be on puree. That I can't recommend. Your stomach is still healing. It is swollen. Doritoes aren't the best choice to go in there right now. I wish I had a suggestion for you that would make you get back in gear. But there is no simple answer. Just exercise more if you're going to eat so many carbs.

Hi Dawn, I know exactly how you feel. I posted something very similar a few days ago. Just as I was told, and we all know that the surgery was on our stomachs and not our heads. During this time of dealing with the cravings and eating more than what I should, I came across a letter that a physician had wrote for me prior to the wls. He had recommended I have the wls due to all the health problems I was having. Reading that again, was like a rude awakening. I then reflected on how much wt. I have lost since the surgery and that was a little boost within itself. To make a long story short, when I went for my pre-op psych. eval I was given a couple of phone numbers to a psychologist that specialize in eating disorders. He said, you may want to give them a call just incase you start exhibiting negative traits after the surgery. So...thats what I am in the process of doing because I don't want to blow it either. I feel it's very important we reach out to others during these crucial times. Individuals that know what we're going through and can help us. Maybe even going to a support group would probably help us. All in all Dawn, we have come to far to go back. Hang in there...you and I can do this. I pray the Lord will give us His strength and self-control because WE are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus who loves us. God Bless You Dawn. :)

This may sound simple, but when I get my sweet tooth that just won't quit until it's been satisfied, I make the SF chocolate pudding. If I'm feeling especially good, I'll put some unflavored protein powder in it, but if I just want something sweet and seemingly 'sinful' - the SF chocolate pudding does the trick. I've never in my life had any will-power, but for some reason this time I'm doing my damndest to keep my eyes on the prize. That's not to say that once in a blue moon I won't have a potato chip or two or sneak one french fry out of someone's lunch, but keep your mind on what the point of all of this is. Nobody said it was easy, well, except maybe Dr. Phil, but what does he know? ;-) Ryan M. 8/28/03 -80

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's ok to indulge every now and then. I allow myself to splurge here and there when I crave it and think that it saves me from really going crazy at times. I'm 5.5 months out and have lost 107 pounds, so it's not like it's really effecting my weight loss in a horrible way. Others on the board will tell you not to eat anything or you will be failing, but each and every one of us is different. We all lose differently, we all eat differently, we all have different problems, different cravings, different lives. Don't overdo the junk food, just don't deny yourself every craving you have or you'll start to resent everything else you have to eat. Please, again, don't overdo it on the junk food, try to eat as well as possible in order to achieve your weight loss goals, but don't beat yourself up over having a few setbacks here and there. Just my two cents :)
