Question:
Has anyone else had a problem with dumping on tomato soup or just tomatos?

Early on I dumped on the soup - when it had milk in it...but by 6 months I
could tolerate it fairly well and now at over a year out, no problems at
all. Never did dump on tomatoes themselves.

Tomato soup and mac and cheese were my two favorite comfort foods preop.
So of course I tried both early postop and both made me really sick. My
other favorite food was mashed potatoes, and I lost my taste for that.
Having surgery does some weird things. There's just no way of knowing how
things will react post op. I could probably have tomato soup now, 2 years
later, but I'm still kind of scared to try. I developed a slight milk
allergy (milk was another thing I loved preop) but it doesn't seem to
bother me as much now. I'm not sure if it was the milk or the tomatoes
since I don't like tomatoes by themselves, but I'm guessing it's the milk.

I would think that if the soup is cream based, the cream would make you
dump. I am 4 months post-op and just had regular old tomato soup for
dinner last night with no problems. Also, there is a lot of acid in
tomatos, so that could also be the problem.

I love tomatoes. However, if I have more than one cherry tomato, I get
terrible stimach pains. I guess they are too acidic for me. I don't think
it is dumping, I just think the tomatoes have too much acid.

My first dumping episode was from a tomato based soup in a Chinese
restaurant. I was so ill from it. I absolutely cannot tolerate tomato
soup at all. I can, however, eat fresh tomatos and I have no problem with
tomato juice or V8 Juice. Go figure.

Lord yesss!!! I had bought many cans of tomato soup for my 2nd and 3rd
weeks of full liquids, but even made with water I got totally nauseous on
what was once my favorite soup. Sigh! I just yesterday brought a full bag
of canned soups--mostly tomato--to the food shelf drop off. :)

I am just wondering if maybe the problems that you all are having with
tomatoes is because of the acid in them. Just a thought. I personally do
not have any problems with them, but I remove the seeds before eating them
because I have diverticulosis and need to stay away from seeds.

Tomato soup is one of the very specific foods that BTC says absolutely NO
to. It is FULL of added refined sugar. When you look at a can of tomatoes
or tomato sauce, the only ingredient is the tomatoes, so the sugar is from
the tomato. Read the label on tomato soup....full of sugar and the second
ingredient listed is HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP....I'd say this is probably
the reason you dumped. Good luck to you!
