Question:
How much did you lose at 1 year? My Surgeon said I lost too much...

I went in for my 1 year check-up and my Surgeon said I lost too much too fast, but I look good and my vitals/blood work is all 100% normal. He said I needed to eat a little more and yet I still feel like I have not completed my weight loss. I am 5'5 was 267 and now am 139 and wanting to get to 134, so I lost 128#(also having skin removed in Jan., so im guessing at least 5lbs taken off). What is the normal weight loss amount at 1 year? Thank you :o)    — Sandy M. (posted on September 20, 2003)

Hi, I understand how your feeling. I am almost 6 months out and I am down 131 pounds (have 60 to go) but my surgeon feels I have lost alot too fast. I am eating and following the plan and although I admit I sometimes eat a little less here and there (I am just not as hungry) I think I am doing pretty good. My blood work has come back in real good shape and except for just having my gallbladder out earlier this week, I feel really good. I have no complaints. I think everyone is so different and we are going to lose differently. I figure like you said you feel good and everything like your bloodwork seems to be in good shape. I say "congratulations" on your loss. Awesome job!!!! Best of wishes to you from here on out. Cheryl Arnold

I went from 263-123 in a year, making a total loss of 140 pounds. Over the next couple of months I drifted down as long as 118. I've since bounced back up and have settled nicely between 120-123, a size 4-6. I've maintained here for about 1 1/2 years now. I will be 3 years post op in January. My surgeon never mentioned losing too fast. In fact, he was my biggest cheerleader and most impressed with my rapid loss. My labs were fine and I felt great. I did mention to him, that I was concerned that I would not stop losing. He assured me that I would. He was right. Shelley

As long as your feel great and your blood work is good, don't sweat it. You very well may need to eat a little more to maintain once you take off the 5 lbs you want gone. <p>I lost 144 in 6 months and am shooting for 242 at 1 yr, which may or may not be achieveable, but whatever the number is it will be so much better than where I was the year before. I will likely easily be down 200 lbs by then and even 225 is quite realistic. I'm down 169 now and it should be increasing soon since it's been sitting for a littel while now. I still have over 4 months to get there. My surgeon made nothing but glowing comments about what I lost at 6 months. He was not worried it was too fast as long as I was doing good. If I am down 200 or more at 1 yr I can't imagine he will have said it was too fast. I've just been very lucky that my body cooperated so well. Tell your doc to take a chill pill and enjoy the success you have had.

I lost 124 pounds in 10 months and I started out at 248. I don't think you lost it too fast at all. We all lose differently. I have a friend who lost 140 pounds in a year.
