Question:
Anyone know of a web site with suggested menus for the pureed stage?
I'm kind of at a loss of what to eat during the puree stage. Should I just puree what I fix for my husband? I had tuna with little lite mayo and dill pickle today but I'm not sure where to go for the next 4 weeks. Anyone know of a web site that give menu ideas? Also is there anything you can eat out at restaurants during this period? — Gail L. (posted on September 7, 2003)

I don't know of a site, but some of the things I ate were: deli turkey and
mayo in the processor or blender, hard boiled eggs in the blender,
scrambled eggs, chewed really well, refried beans with shredded cheese
melted over it, a tuna melt-tuna mashed really fine w/ mayo, on toast with
cheese melted over it, then I left the toast over at the end. You could
try pureeing some of the chunky soups, but they are high in sodium so I
don't know how you feel about that. I liked hummus, and I heard some like
peanut butter, but some have mentioned dumping on it. Most cheeses are ok,
if you chew them well. Even w/ all the cheese I eat, my cholesterol went
down 100 points so the little bit you'd eat won't do too much damage if
that's a problem for you. Sorry, 7 months ago seems like forever so I don't
remember much more. Good luck!

Those of you on puree or mush part of the journey don't let your brain get
stuck in the boring mode. Here are some suggestions: Egg salad, tuna
salad,
the inside of a deviled crab with cocktail sauce, pintos and cheese from
taco bell, mashed potatoes, soft cheese spreads, deviled ham, deviled
chicken, whipped sweet potatoes, carrot souffle, spinich souffle,
eggs-omlets, soft boiled scrambled, pureed fruits, pureed casseroles, I
also
found nancy's quiche appitizers (they are tiny and good). Just remember no
chucks!!!! and chew ,chew, chew PS. don't swallow too fast :) Good luck on
your journies!

I have to start out by saying that the pureed stage was the worst for me
mentally. Making baby food from food that looked really good before I
stuck it in the blender. I put anything in my mini food processor from a
cheeseburger to grilled cheese, shrimp with mayo and cheese, spaghetti and
meatballs to pizza. I blended whatever my husband ate with a little milk
and then nuked it in the micro for a few seconds. As far as dining out,
try things like soups and eat around the chunks, mashed potatoes- shread a
little chicken and mix it in, cottage cheese, Taco Bell has Pintos and
cheese which I love, but recommend you chew them like crazy at this stage
since they are so stick to the spoon and your ribs thick. We had a dinner
party during this stage and I brought my mini processor and blended it and
ate it, unfortunately I became a topic of conversation for a while.

Whatever you do, stay away from baby food. NASTY. Here's what I had: bought
roasted, skinless, boneless chicken breasts (a tad expensive, but one
package of 2 breasts made enough for 4 "meals") pureed with
Campbell's Cream of Chicken Soup at Hand. Or I cooked a turkey breast in
the crockpot and made gravy and pureed those together, and I did the same
thing with a beef roast. Cottage cheese and pureed peaches, pears, etc.,
yogurt (Lite and Fit), V-8 juice (with a splash of tobassco), tried tuna
once - it was okay but I didn't tolerate it very well, Choice DM, oatmeal
(instant, made with Lactaid milk), grits, cream of wheat. Try to avoid
pasta and rice. I generally cooked for the family so I tried to make things
I could eat or puree. I made a crust-less quiche with eggs, chopped
spinach, feta cheese and cottage cheese with some salt and pepper and a few
other things thrown in. Other poster is correct - blended doesn't have to
be bland. Good luck!
