Question:
Anyone gained weight while on Lexapro?
Please tell me your experiences with Lexapro post-op. Thanks! — Angie M. (posted on June 29, 2003)

I take Lexapro and have found that it acutually helps curb my appetite, not
increase it.

I just recently started taking Lexapro and I have found no side affects. I
am 3 1/2 months post op and no adverse affect on my weight loss.

I have just recently stopped Lexapro. I am only 4 weeks post-op and I
started taking it 1 week post-op. It made me very sleepy, so I started
taking it at night. It derived from Zoloft, which I hate because it put 40
pounds on me.
After taking Lexapro for 3 days my panic attacks stopped, but so did my
weight loss at only week 2 post-op. I was very discouraged thinking that
it was the Lexapro, but I think it might have been a plateau. After
stopping Lexapro the scale started moving again. I weened myself off of it
by halfing it for a week, with my doctors approval. He wanted me to try
Wellbutrin, but I seem fine for now. I have a friend that takes Lexapro as
needed. She maybe only takes it for 2 days out of the month. She says it
is an instant "chill pill" for her. I have to agree, it works
fast! I loved the way it put an end to my panic attacks, but I think I was
just having post-op blues and anxieties. I am now about a month out and I
still have mood swings, but I am trying real hard not to get back on an
anti-depressant. Before surgery I was on Prozac for 2 years, and it seemed
to do ok for me, but I gained only about 10 pounds on it. But lets face it
any mind control substance is not good for you, but neither is anxiety or
being depressed. I paid a visit to the book store to find books about
anxiety and depression to become more informed about the disorder. I am
finding that this is helping me. I also stay very busy and when I start
worrying I snap myself out it, and that is not easy for someone that has
been diagnosed with Obsessive-compulsive thinking. That was two years ago,
and you can get well. Good luck and you can email me if you have any other
questions. God bless!

I started on Lexapro before I had surgery and I continue to take it. I do
not believe it has slowed down my weight loss at all. Good luck to you.
