Question:
Seeking some high protein suggestions beyond protein shakes/bars

Would someone be so kind to list some foods that are high in protien that I could start eating on a daily basis? I don't want to depend on protien shakes for the protien. Thank you so much. I know this is alot to ask.    — Kim L. (posted on April 26, 2003)

As the previous poster said, any kind of cheese, meat, fish, nuts, peanut butter, soy products, etc. However there are some that are higher than others. Sardines are VERY high in protein and I happen to like them. Cottage cheese is also very high as is salmon, tuna and chicken. Most fish is really good but salmon, tuna and sardines are particularly high in protein. Soy nuts are a good high protein snack as is jerky. Canned corned beef hash is high - I dump from it but a lot of people have no trouble with it. Potted meat is also high in protein. Read labels - they are a wealth of information. And even though I eat mostly high protein foods I still have a shake or bar every day - I am 17 months post-op and my surgeon asks me everytime I see him if I'm still having a protein supplement and I always say yes. It's good insurance. By the way, I've lost 181 pounds.

Tuna has 13 grams in just a 1/4 cup serving. I mix in some Light Miracle Whip and can even tolerate a little relish. Can't wait to be able to eat some on a Triscuit!

Someone posted this sometime last year: Sources of Protein: Shrimp, tuna, cottage cheese, nuts, milk, yogurt, ham slices, beef or turkey jerky, soy products, tofu, beans, lentils, bean soup, beans and melted cheese, grains (to a lesser extent), salmon, scallops, crawdaddies, liver, chickpeas/humus, protein (soy) bars, protein (whey) powder, turkey, chicken, duck, goose, quail, Cornish hens, sprinkle powdered milk into things. You can eat fish or shellfish. Peanut butter (or any kind of nuts) are protein rich. Beans (especially soybeans) and legumes too. Tofu... Milk... Yogurt... Hope this helps!
