Question:
16 Days Post Op, stomach gurgling and heart palpatations after protein drinks with milk
Whenever I drink my protein drink, (I mix them with milk), my stomach girgles and girgles, and gets really noisy. That part I guess I can understand, but it seems like my heart starts beating faster and palpatating. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for your time. JoAnn — JoAnn A. I am 9 days post op and mixing the protein shakes with Lactaid (1%) and
having no problems. My dietician recommended Lataid from the get go. Try
it!!

lactose intolerance! mix the protein powder with water and ice and blend
it instead. i'm almost 6 months out and i have the same girgles and
dumping symptoms whenever i have any dairy! it's why we had surgery!!! to
stay away from stuff that got us so big!! Good luck!! (And try Silk Soy
milk, i love it!) Ciao Bella :)

Are you allergic to aspartame? If it's not the milk, maybe it's the
artificial sweetener.

JoAnn, you unfortunately probably are lactose intolerant like the previous
poster said. OR it could just be that you cannot handle all the sugar that
is in milk. It has like 12grams in one cup I believe, which for a post-op
can be way too much. I would try using water, or if you want the added
protein milk gives try Lactaid. I haven't had the heart palpitations, but
I understand the intolerance to milk. Goodluck to you!

Milk is high in sugar..and can cause dumping..I know for me, I don't dump
severely..but when I do, I get heart palpitations, lightheaded and just
feel like I ned to lay down..so I stay away from milk.

I consider that you are lucky! The sugar is making you dump (rapid heart)
and the lactose is making you miserable! I haven't had milk or ice cream
for 1 yrs! I do cheese and other non-sugar, non-lactose dairy. There are
so many better ways to get your calcium protein in that involve fewer
calories and sugars. You may not be thankful today, but you WILLbe when
you get a better wt loss.
