Question:
TN does not have a system to find out about WLS surgeons.

What can I do to be assured that I would pick the best surgeon for me? I had breast cancer 4 years ago, masectomy, chemo and radiation and I am hesitant. I have always been big 220-250 lbs. and I don't want the cancer to return. The lap band may be best for me because it is reversible. In the long term, wouldn't that be important?    — Joann L. To find a doctor in Tennessee, go to Find a Doc at the top of this page and then choose option 3. Click on your state and it will bring up a list of the surgeons that members of this site have used for the surgery.

Many insurance providers are NOT paying for LAp Band as they now feel it is "expieremental" the weight loss results are also not that great long term and the band requires injections to fill it (saline)in the office that are NOT covered by insurance from what I hear! They get costly! Best of luck- A LAP RNY may be the more sensible way to go. ALSO, with all the negatives above about the Lap BAnd. I also have heard once you have it you can not have RNY if you do not have good results! Contact your ins company to see if Lap BAnd is a covered benefit!

Joann, You didn't specify what part of Tn but, in the Nashville area there are no surgeons performing the lap band surgery. Check out Dr. Husted, not that I'm biased or anything, but he performed my surgery. His reviews are wonderful and I really researched all the surgeons before selecting him. He offers two precedures that other Nashville surgeons don't, the Doudenal Switch and the Fobi Pouch. Hope this helps. Christine. Dr. Husted - Fobi Pouch - 8/2/02 329/218 111 pounds gone forever!!
