Question:
Just a couple of questions about mons pubis lift....
Just curious when a mons pubis "lift" would be done- during tummy tuck or thigh lift? I would assume it would be during a tummy tuck- just making sure. I will need both procedures done and feel confident that my insurance will pay some on them. Also, is the mons pubis lift as big of a deal as the others? I mean, is it simple to do and takes no time or is it just as complex? Thanks for any comments!....Karen (lap rny- Sept. 20, 2002- down 114 pounds- 30 more to go!) — karmiausnic (posted on March 7, 2003)

I believe I am having this lifted with my TT. I will let you know for sure
next week.

Good question as I have heard various answers. My surgeon said the mons was
a separate procedure and difficult to do due to various reasons. I have
also read that some people thought that their surgeons would do at the same
time as a TT or panni, but they did not. It is a really sensitive issue
with me right now too as I am very embarassed by this area in particular at
21 months post-op. I was denied for panni and breast lift with Aetna on
first try at 12 months post-op, but may try again or with our new insurance
this summer. Good Luck to you in finding out the answers!

Karen, compared to my tummy tuck it was a breeze! I did have my crotch
lift done in a separate surgery but most anyone else should be able to have
it done at the same time. As I understood it, my doctor does it standard
with all his tucks. Its simple. No muscle cutting. They use the lower
portion of your tummy tuck incision just above your crotch. If you have
excess fat there they lipo it out. Then its just a matter of removing the
excess skin there, pulling the remaining skin up and sewing it back into
that incision. Its the same process they use for tightening the skin above
your incision for your tummy. Even having it done in a separate surgery it
was an easy recovering. There was bruising (from the lipo I assume) and
some post op swelling. There was no real pain from the surgery as no
muscles were involved - just a few inches of incision to heal. I also want
to let you know that I did a lot of research and talked with alot of people
about their tummy tuck experiences before I had mine. People who were
unhappy with their results were because they assumed the doctors would take
care of their mons pubis area at the same time and never bothered to
actually ask their doctor about it. I know its done with the tummy tuck a
lot, but some doctors don't just do it. I'd definitely find out if your
doctor will do it or CAN do it. Even if you had to kick in a little extra
on your own to get it done at that time it would be worth it. Once your
tummy is flat that poofy crotch sticks out like a sore thumb. I felt very
deformed, couldn't wear any pants that were too close fitting in the crotch
area and was very self conscious about it.
